Guest guest
I would have figured that in a bigger town or city that it would be very hot in the summer, even though it is a bit north. I figured it had weather like Ohio did and we did get hot spells. However, northern Ohio is cooler han southern. Glad that this is not a regular occurrance for you.  My living room AC goes a lot of the time. It should be off at night but sometimes my husband sleeps in his chair (electronic and goes back a lot and has a control that takes it up to almost standing for him. I eventually go to bed, sometimes at night and sometimes in the morning. he gets up M, W &   F at 4am to pepare to go to dialysis. He has breakfast then and gets reay and likes to go early but every so often he falls asleep in his chair and they call us to see if he is coming.  Intend to go to bed early tonight. Don't know about him.  Hope you get some cool weather coming in.  Carolyn Wilkerson  ________________________________ To: sproutpeople Sent: Sunday, July 8, 2012 9:45 AM Subject: Re: Hi everybody. How's the sprouting going?  My living room was originally 3 rooms. The landlord re-did it for his daughter over 23 years ago. When we walked in to this apartment 21 years ago, I almost lost my mind. Never saw such a big room with 8 windows. Never thought about how hard it would be to clean 8 windows, windowsills, verticals. All I saw was this BIG room. Then as you walk back you hit the kitchen and eating area, then you have the two bedrooms in the back. It's a really nice place. I have kept it exactly like it was when I moved here. But we never needed any A/C because we had never had heat waves like this. So I have adapted (and my body loves the heat because of my arthritis). And neither of us have breathing problems because we don't smoke, (thank goodness for that, or we would have an entirely different scenario because people with breathing problems NEED A/C). And I once asked an electrician if I could put a 10,000 BTU A/C in my living room and leave it running and he looked at and said " Seriously??, that sucker would burn out in no time trying to keep this place cool " And because Con Ed has pulled the power, it would not even be worth it. I see all the A/C's in my neighborhood (both central and windows) running full speed and people are coming outside wiping their foreheads. So it's not even doing what it's supposed to be doing. I don't think the powers that be in Brooklyn EVER expected this kind of weather. Melody > > > I am surprised that you'd need a 50,000 BTU unit and no wonder you don't have one. That is enough for whole house.  It would be so expensive. I would have thought that a 7500 BTU would have cooled the living room. But that is a really nice sized room. I wish I had more space, especially storage space. > We did make a mistake of buying a 5000 BTU and it should have covered more but we had to get a bigger one. Gave the one to a neighbor or a bedroom as hers broke down. > > hard to know what they will handle and some models are not like others. > > I am one of those people who have to have the air. We turn off the living room AC at night and turn on the bedroom. Electric has been running about $130-160. Every so often it changes or goes tothe higher. Winter is is closer to $60-70 or so. We have AC on most days in the winter but we are in FL. > > We do have a fan in the living oom as well as usband likes the fan blowing in his face. It helps him breathe. He has COPD and CHF. > > > > Carolyn Wilkerson > >
