Guest guest
For anyone out there dealing with reflux, ordinary lecithin seems to help my son. After two years of almost constant regurgitation, it finally seems to be gone! What a wonderful way to start the new year. If anyone wants to give it a try, it's a very safe supplement. I buy ordinary lecithin capsules from my local supermarket here in Spain, and have been giving 1,000 mg (2 x 500 mg capsules) at mealtimes -- slightly before meals, if possible. So my son has been taking 3,000 to 4,000 mg daily since late October. He just turned 10 and weighs about 34 kg. There are also lecithin granules that you can stir into food or drink, but we haven't tried that form. At first we noticed his appetite start to come back, though he still had reflux. Now he has a strong appetite with no apparent reflux. (My son feels ashamed of regurgitation and has tried to hide it from us in the past, so we can't rely on him to tell us. We have to keep an eye on him.) When we saw a gastroenterologist in November here in Spain, we mentioned that lecithin seems to help him, and she said to continue with it. We never did try the Motilium she prescribed, as it wasn't necessary. (Belated thanks to all who answered my question about it!) I'm not sure why lecithin would help so much: maybe because it emulsifies fats and makes them easier to digest...? I know it's also an acetylcholine precursor, which plays a role in digestion, but so is DMAE and that had no noticeable effect. It seems that we had tried everything to stop reflux (probiotics, enzymes, antifungals, apple-cider vinegar, etc.), and an upper GI endoscopy had revealed nothing unusual. The past couple of years have been so frustrating. Sorry for the long post, but this is huge at my house. I can see a spark again in my son's eyes, he's talking more and doing pretend play again. This morning he put a juice box to his ear like a telephone and had a silly conversation. Then he asked me " What's your favorite Weird Al song? " and we had a fun discussion of Al Yankovic music. Best wishes to all for 2012! Ann > > > > Does anyone have positive or negative opinions of domperidone?
