Guest guest
If they do then the chlorine would make them clean of ecoli or whatever and then wash it off and that would make it ready to eat as usually people don't wash them again. It would sort of purify them from their view. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Monday, May 28, 2012 6:20 PM Subject: Re: Re: Baby carrots  , Where did you get te idea that they used chemical peeling? ew Re: Baby carrots Great way to use them, I think. Too bad they went from a simple polish to dousing them with chemical peeling. I put my " uglies " in my Presto Peel-a-meal and it rounds them out just perfectly-I use the scrapings that are left in the machine for compost tea. > > Baby carrots > http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/83226 > > >

Guest guest
For your compost tea, do you whip it up in the Vitamix and then put it in the garden? I had read of doing that with banana peels and then other things, too. I figured it would be less messy and attract fewer animals if it were in a compost tea rather than in just the vegetable and fruit trash. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Monday, May 28, 2012 6:15 PM Subject: Re: Baby carrots  Great way to use them, I think. Guest guest
Yes, I make the compost tea in my Vitamix, then pour it in to a big stadium cooler (the kind with a spout at the bottom like you would see at a ballpark for dispensing water. It is covered, so it allows it to ferment and brew (not necessary for houseplants, but I like it good and brewed for the bigger gardens) > > > > Baby carrots > > http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/83226 > > > > > >
Guest guest
Well, the THEORY is that the chlorine rinses off, but I personally don't want bleach any where near my food. When I do mine in my peel-a-meal, I just rinse them in clear water-they last for ages, but commercially prepared ones are bleached. > > Ah, the ones we use for snacking and so many kids use to eat. So all of them have had chlorine on them and are sanded down? Would that be to make them sanitary (like we do to pool water) and sanding down to get rid of the outer skin. Would be faster than peeling.  Would the chlorine be that bad if they were washed afterwards? > > > Carolyn Wilkerson > > >  > > From:
