Guest guest
Natasha- Glad to hear Aidan is doing so well! Hooray! You will get over the stares and the people looking away soon. Before Dane was banded I don't think I ever looked someone in a wheelchair in the eye either. Now I go out of my way to smile. Before I was afraid if I looked at them they would think I was pitying them or something. Being on the receiving end of those fast glances made me reconsider this! It is lonely! The stares were easier for me than the fast glances! After a couple of weeks you won't notice it at all. I'd go out and think " Why is everyone acting so weird? " I'd chuckle when I got home and remembered about the band! Dane's mom DOC Grad

Guest guest
She was beyond rude! I can't even think of a word for it. Guest guest
I saw a lot of people in my church look at my daughter. The priest did the sweetest thing today at communion. He put his hand on her head and said a little blessing especially for her and her noggin. It was so touching. We had a lot of questions at Walmart, but no one asked at church. Speaking about rude and church, OT, I took my 2 1/2 year old and 10 month old to church. We have a cry room for noisy kids, but mine weren't being very noisy. My philosophy, they will never learn to be quiet if you put them in a room of playing kids. Well, my son said a few things and we scolded, and my daugher bumped her head (pre-band) and started crying. I promptly retreated to the back hallway untill she stopped. After the sermon, the woman in front of us stood up and says "You know, there is a cry room for noisy kids. Your kids are making noise and it is very annoying" SHe snatched up her purse and took off, missing the last half of mass. I was so shocked, I jsut stared at her. My son was very hurt which made me the most mad. I dont really care, I wouldnt have moved, but I dont want my son to get hurt. After mass, people were coming up to us to tel us the kids were fine, they welcomed them to mass and that this woman didnt have a good christian attitude. It amazes me the rudeness that can come out. Guest guest
I think people are just curious and would like to know what is going on. Yes, they may need some ettiquette lessons, but roll with it. Let them know you are doing your best to help you child. Let them know you are happy they are interested and asked you about it. Before the banding, think about how you might have felt, not knowing anything about it. Personally, I would never have asked anyone, but I would oogle over their babies. People are naturally curiou sof the unknown. jen
