Way to go Dona.  If you follow the plan you outlined you will find yourself

healthier than ever.  My 76 year old Mother was cured of really horrible

psoraisis (had it for years), high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high

triglycerides, bad breath and a general funk by doing pretty much what you are

doing. I don't even know you....and I am so proud of you!

By the way...being a Vegan is really easy - don't let anyone tell you it

isn't.  There is so much delicious food out there.  My husband was type II

diabetic and he finally started listening to me about how what we eat makes such

a difference.  He has lost 60 lbs + just by cleaning up his diet.  No dieting,

just healthful eating.  Keep it up!

Subject: OT: Help with Juicing/Diabetes

Hi everybody - I have recently self-diagnosed myself (home blood sugar

testing) as pre-diabetic and am looking for help in reversing that. I've

spent an enormous amount of time on the internet researching related

topics beyond lose weight/get more exercise (which I will incorporate).

Specifically, I'm going to follow the Eat to Live (Fuhrman) plan as much

as I can, including going mostly vegetarian - a lot it raw. I watched

the Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead video and was greatly influenced by that.

I don't plan on going on a 60-day juice fast, but was sucked in by the

claim that the " stars " of the documentary had eliminated most of their

medications, since I already take too many. I've become overwhelmed with

the quantity of information, not all reliable, and ask for help from

those of you with experience to help me focus on some of the

less-well-known secrets you may have discovered. I found the Eat-2-Live

and Vegetarian Yahoo forums and am also learning from those.

Melody - I noticed your comment that fenugreek was good for diabetes, so

will grow more of that. Molloy - you had previously given info on

juicing and I said I didn't, but am now the proud owner of a new

Breville juicer. My first " test " event included a little of everything

I had in the fridge, and I ended up using some V8 Fusion juice to make

it more palatable. I need to be doing mostly veg juices - I can " blend "

fruit into great smoothies already. I'd really like to improve my blood

sugar numbers in the next couple of months because I know how important

it is, but don't want to end up at the doctor and on more medication!!

By the way, all of this started from my contact with this group, and

sprouting fits in wonderfully with my new lifestyle changes. Anyone can

email me directly if you don't want to continue this on the forum.

Thanks for any help,

Dona [:)]

Hi there.

I'm not being nosy, but I do know about diabetes and perhaps I can help a bit?

I was in the ACCORD diabetic protocol at Cornell Medical Center. I was in the

protocol for over 5 years. Now I am in their ACCORDION protocol. It'a a follow

up version.

Do you know what your a1c is? That's important. What are your numbers that you

consider yourself pre-diabetic?

And growing fenugreek is GREAT. That will help.

Also, do NOT drink too much juice (especially fruit juice) because that is

concentrated sugars in your body. You don't want that.

I got that straight from the Cornell protocol.

Eat small meals throughout the day. Drink plenty of water. And consider taking

Methyl B-12. That will absolutely help with nerve healing (just in case you ever

develop diabetes)

Look up Methyl B-12 and diabetes and you'll learn all about it. I've been on

this for about 5 years now. Best thing I have ever done for myself. That...and

losing all my weight.

If you can walk, walk everywhere you can walk. Better than taking a car. If you

can't, then do whatever you can do to get the circulation going in your body.

Sprouting is one of the best things I have ever done for my body. How do I know

this? My doctor tells me. He's a fan. He LOVES my sprouts. lol

So let us know how you are doing and you can ask me any questions you want. I

learned quite a bit from being in the ACCORD protocol.

Thanks. I think one of the biggest benefits of the internet is providing access

to people with first-hand experience in our interests, instead of just those

within our relatively small group of friends and acquaintances. These forums are

great for that, and most members are really friendly and helpful. Thanks for

responding...

Melody - thanks for alerting me to the other two tests. I had a friend back in

California that had type 2, and he had to go to his doctor every 3 months for an

A1C test. I had no idea you could do your own these days. Fascinating. Thanks

again,

It's possible, I guess - didn't even know insurance companies supplied tests

like that. Thanks for the suggestion.

Insurance companies will pay for a HOME a1c test?

That's a new one on me, but she should give it a try. My husband has severe

neuropathy and his insurance company won't even pay for orthotics nor shoes

(because he's NOT a diabetic).

But it's worth looking into. But honestly, if they pay for it (if she has to

send it to them), she has to wait WEEKS for the results.

With this thing, you get the results in like 10 minutes or so.

I'd definitely do the home thing. No doctor's office, no one telling you " Lose

weight, watch what you eat, blah blah blah " .

That's not MY present doctor, but it WAS my former doctor who behaved like that.

I'll never forget those days. It made me never go to the doctor's office.

Hi Donna,

Do you have a favorite resource for easy vegan (website, recipe book,

etc)? I've been looking around at Raw, vegan, vegetarian... none of it

is looking easy. :)

Thanks!

Donna,

Hi! I think you can't do better than Fuhrman's plan. He has so much

evidence for his way of eating, that I recommend it to anyone who wants

to get healthy. I can't be a full vegetarian, but don't eat meat very

much any more, mostly thanks to his book. I've lost about 30-35 lbs

since adopting his eating plan as much as I can. Cutting the volume is a

good way to lose weight, in addition to eliminating meat and breads as

much as possible.

Be careful with the juicing. If you juice fruits too much, you can add a

LOT of sugar to your diet. And remember what Fuhrman says about fiber?

By juicing, if it's an extractor, you're tossing the fiber and

micronutrients contained in it. I have a Ninja, and it juices the

entire plant, it's like a super blender, and nothing is wasted.

H.

Specifically, I'm going to follow the Eat to Live (Fuhrman) plan as much

as I can, including going mostly vegetarian - a lot it raw.
