Hi Everyone,

It has been a long time since I have been able to write but I try to keep up with everyone when I find a few minutes to read my email.

Our 3 1/2 year old son, Cody, was diagnosed with AS at the age of 2 1/2. Everything I read in books and everything I read from this site talks about how children with Aspergers have both poor gross motor and fine motor skills. Cody had delayed gross motor skills and didn't walk until the age of 18 months. He was late in sitting up, 10 1/2 months. But once he started to walk, his gross motor skills caught up and he is now doing gross motor skills beyond that of most 7 year olds. He was just evaluated by a physical therapist and with the exception of bearing alot of his weight on the ball of his foot and some toe walking when barefoot, his gross motor skills are wonderful. He can skip, gallop, jump, hop on one foot, throw, dribble a ball with both hands and with one hand, and several other things that a typical 3 year old is usually unable to do. I guess my question is, does anyone have a child with AS that also has well developed gross and fine motor skills. This part of him doesn't make sense with the AS diagnosis although I know everyone is different. Any information would be a great help. Thanks, Maureen

Hi Maureen,

Having poor motor skills is not part of an ASD dx, it just so happens that

many (but not all) with ASD also have poor motor skills.
