Guest guest
The deal with the neurosurgeon is that our ped doesn't think Hannah needs to be banded. Her stand is that it will round out when she gets older and off it more. You all saw how bad it is in the pics though (and if you didn't they're in the " Hannah B " folder)and I just don't feel like it will fix itself--especially now that it is getting worse, specifically her ear alignment. Our ped has never had a banded baby in all her years practicing, but even told me she has an 18 month old with a still " crooked head. " That's what we want to avoid! I'll call the neuro on Monday and see how long it will take to get in and go from there. The nurse left the message on my voice mail today with the Dr.'s name and said that our ped " really doesn't feel she needs to be seen, but if it will make (us) feel better " & she also said " she's the one that does the helmets. " I'm not sure if that means she refers to Hanger, NOPCO, or wherever else or if she does her own. These are all questions I'll ask on Monday. I really think I'd feel the best with the DOC band at this point though, as does my husband. I don't mind driving the extra hour to a place where thats all they do. If we start early enough hopefully she won't have to wear it very long anyway. My husband has been educating all of Cape Cod Hospital (where he works) about plagio whenever anyone asks about Hannah . , mom to Hannah-10 wks
Guest guest
Hi , The first ped and I saw, actually saw me when I was a little one and I will be 37 this mo! He was the one who told me it would round itself out. If your Ped has been in practice too long they are still holding on to old fashioned ways. See a newer ped or insist on your little girl being her first banded babe! Then , I would not be too happy with someone who is still practicing in the 1970's. Sorry if I am so harsh. I just believe in keeping up with the times. I saw the pics and I think the helmut would be the best. Especially since I sense your concern and adamancy ? regarding this. If you feel your Ped is not working with your daughters best interest switch! You owe her/him no loyalty. I have a good friend who avoided a kidney transplant for her son by checking out that second opinion. Thank God she did. She even felt guilty but saved her son the possibility of ....... Keep us posted. & seeing more improvements in our helmut!!!!!!! --- In Plagiocephaly , " " <sarahhollis@y...> wrote: > The deal with the neurosurgeon is that our ped doesn't think Hannah > needs to be banded. Guest guest
, How frustrating!! I'm so sorry your ped is so against banding. That's stinks. I'll keep everything crossed that this specialist can get you in fast! Remember though it's totally up to you which cranial orthotic Hannah uses. Even if this doc uses her/his own, you can still ask for a script for the DOCband. Please keep us posted. --- In Plagiocephaly , " " <sarahhollis@y...> wrote: > The deal with the neurosurgeon is that our ped doesn't think Hannah > needs to be banded. Guest guest
- Maybe CT can give you the name of a band friendly dr. You are going to wait a while to see the neurosurgeon. Or call your ped and ask her if she can guarantee that Hannah will round out on her own. CT might actually send a packet to your ped. had quite a few roadblocks and a CT packet got her the script. I think that was ?! Dane's mom DOC Grad
Guest guest
, Yes, that was me. Like you said as soon as my ped SAW the pictures of a how band her asymmerty was. She said she didn't realize it was that bad and wrote me the script! > - > Maybe CT can give you the name of a band friendly dr. Guest guest
Hi , We saw a cranio-facial surgeon at Children's, not a neurosurgeon. I guess I am still confused at this point why some people are referred to one kind of specialist and others to a different kind? Anyway funny story - I was in the mall the other day with Isabella, and I was stopped by a mom whose daughter was also banded (although she was already out of it), and she had seen the same specialist that we saw at Children's. She had gone with the NOPCO helmet and was thrilled with the results, her daughter started treatment at around 4 months. I think all doctors at Children's will send you to NOPCO since that is the orthotist that Children's is affiliated with - but just because the script is written on a piece of paper that says " NOPCO " on the top doesn't mean you have to go there - when I called NOPCO they told me I could take the script wherever I wanted, and as I mentioned before we went to Hanger as CIGNA POS covered it 100%.
