Guest guest
I took my son to the doctor today for his 9 month check up and he is lagging behind on his gross motor skills. He still isn't getting up on his knees to crawl and he isn't pulling himself up. I was wondering if anyone else has had the same issues. I was told at four months to try repositioning him because of the flat spot and in trying to do this I tried to keep him off of his back (He hated his stomach until lately). To know avail he still had to be fitted for a helmet at 6 months and started to consistenly wear it at 7 months. Now he has been wearing it for 2 months 24 hours a day and we go back to the orthodist next thursday for our last month fitting.

Guest guest
What do they do when they come to your house? Is there anything I can do now? She said something in passing about that program. My pediatrician wants to see my son back at the end of March. > > > > I took my son to the doctor today for his 9 month check up and > he > > > is > > > > lagging behind on his gross motor skills. Guest guest
It takes a while to get a child fully enrolled into EI. First the coordinator comes and does a mini eval she will then contact a PT,OT and a Special Education teacher. They will all come to your house (if your lucky all at the same time) They will then evaluate your son. You will get a letter in the mail about their recommendations. They may also tell you at the end of the meeting if they think he qualifies. In NY a baby has to be 25% delayed in 2 areas or 33% delayed in 1 area. I don't know if that varies from state to state. You can do a search on the web for exercises you can do with him to help build up his gross motor skills. If it were me I wouldn't wait until the end of March. I'd call my ped Monday morning and ask for the telephone number to EI. I say that only b/c it does take a while to finally receive services if your child qualifies. > > > > > I took my son to the doctor today for his 9 month check up > and > > he > > > > is > > > > > lagging behind on his gross motor skills. Guest guest
Does/did your son have torticollis? My daughter did and through daily stretches it is resolved. HATED tummy time for a LONG time. It took a lot of patience and hard work to build up the strength and stretch her neck enough to make it comfortable. To this day though she will not sleep on her tummy, only her side. is also delayed in gross motor skills. She didn't start crawling until 11 months. I really thought it would never happen. At 9 months she was no where near even trying. She still does not pull up to stand and doesn't yet like to bear weight on her legs for any length of time, even when I am holding her hands. We have been enrolled in the EI Program. We didn't qualify for the state program I think because is advanced in fine motor skills, but we are enrolled with a program throught the school district. An Early Childhood Development Specialist comes over every Friday and works on skills with . Right now we're working on pulling up to stand, bearing weight on legs and also self feeding. is just starting to put food in her mouth on her own. She would never put anything in her mouth. Hope this information helps & (11 months, STARband Grad) > I took my son to the doctor today for his 9 month check up and he is > lagging behind on his gross motor skills. Guest guest
When the girls were favoring one side much more than the others our p/t told us that if it wasn't corrected, then they could stop using one side and then become very behind in their gross motor skills. She has even seen adults who you can tell favor one side over the other just by how they walk. Fortunately for us, the girls decided to try both sides, but I would definately look into early intervention and possibly physical therapy to get it corrected early! Guest guest
Have you contacted the infants and toddlers program or early intervention through your state. PT, OT, etc can be given discounted or even free. My daughter is getting all for free. Jne
Guest guest
Jin, Swimming was a big part of our lives when I realized that after swimming my son didn't have " weird behaviors. " After exercising in the pool, he was crystal clear. I think drinking enough water and exercise are key for our kids. As for the personal trainer, I just hired a trainer from the area. He was very firm but encouraging. Having the right personality and the ability to work with our kids is more important than their knowledge. Of course he wanted my son to switch to whole wheat bread and other things, but we ignored that part. Where are you located? As far as the obstacle course, when he was little I would have him jump and count to forty on the trampoline, run around the pool table three times, crawl under things, hop to the wall, throw and catch a ball and then at the end there was a computer game waiting for him. Computers were a big motivator for my son. Hope this helps, Marcia Marcia, What a interesting idea, Which kind training did you hire? I remember you wrote about setup obscial couse in your back yard, how did you do that, and what material you got to set it up? I want to take to boy scout high adventures in two years include long distance hiking, and climbing for his mental and physical training, but some people give me hard time thinking I am crazy with the kind of motor skill he has. Well, it will be good for us to set a goal, and work on it. Thanks, Jin
