I always give a second dose two weeks later to catch any eggs that wouldn't have been killed with the first dose. If he isn't scratching or picking then fair bet that adults are dead, you won't necessarily see them dead in pooh. Don't forget to cut nails, and watch for nose picking and extra hungry lol. Whole family should be treated.

Threadworms (YUCK)

Proceed with caution if you are of delicate disposition....

I treated for threadworms (he definitely has them, gross) on Monday and I haven't seen any dead ones in his poo although he isn't complaining of itchy bum anymore. I have taken all the appropriate hygiene measures and washed everything, etc to reduce the chance of reinfestation but I am doubting whether or not the Ovex actually worked. I don't want to check his bum again at night, I'm not sure I'd survive if I had to look at those creatures again. Has anyone had success with just one treatment of Ovex? I just need some reassurance - and the internet is not a reassuring place to look when it comes to parasitic infestation.

Thanks!

Thanks very much, Vicky, that's very reassuring, for some reason I thought I should see the dead ones.  I've been a bit OCDish about it all so everyone has been treated, even his tutors, lol, nails cut, bed linens washed, no nose picking and his appetite is unusually low so that's a good sign.  Whew.

I'll dose again in two weeks, I've got it in the diary.  Fun times I tell you, fun times.Darla
