One of my daughter's (14) strengths is reading. As a former children's editor, it was something I definitely pushed in my home from day one; we would read together every single night...and viola! She's a good reader. I know it doesn't always work that way though. But it did for Beth. She can read fast and with fairly good comprehension. She reads the video guides too! LOL! The problem is...she is obsessive...so will only read what SHE wants to read, which is limited, as you said, Des. Oh well, at least she can read, and can read well. That will certainly help in life! I'm thankful.

I know what you mean about 'wishing' on what they would read. I have all boys...so I was thinking the 'classics' for them. NOT! None of them are into sports, mystery or anything in that field. Chapter books were hard to find 'back then' and I ended up getting them the "Captain Underpants" books *argh*! They loved them, and it opened up reading for them. Now the one likes Science Fiction (mostly books written about hi-tech computer mysteries etc) but at least it got them interested. At 13 he still likes to read the Captain Underpants series.... just to keep up with the next saga. LOLYoungest just started on Chapter books (he THINKS they are too hard) but I know he can read them. Last week.... our First experience with Scooby Doo readers. DES < was hoping for Treasure Island etc.
