Guest guest
I currently work with a young girl with autism and have been working or getting an education to work with this wonderful portion of our population for the last 4 years and currently have a question that can never be learned in a classroom. Do parents want to know, before they accept it or are aware of the potentials, that their child possibly has autism??? My brother and sister-in-law have a son who is about a year and a half and shows many signs of a child with developmental delays, and more so autism. I have tried to give them information regarding the early signs but they choose to toss it aside saying everything is fine, he is just behind a couple months across the board and they think he'll be fine. How does one assist a family member in accepting this potential news, while helpng them access services for their son. I know that everyone needs to come to their own conclusion and that it happens on their individual time frame but I'm having a hard time letting crucial time be wasted. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you for your time and I hope you are all well!! _Troubled family member
