I don't have experience specifically with United Health but thought I'd share my sculptra experience

..

Pacificare approved my treatment last year... after the fact (not via a pre-approval process). I did not have any evidence that they had paid for anyone else's treatment when I made my claim. My doctor provides a 'treatment letter' explaining that Sculptra was approved by the FDA specifically for reconstructive treatment of facial wasting due to HIV infection, etc. My claim was approved first time through, no 'appeal' needed. I am now insured with Aetna and have just submitted a claim for my sculptra treatment last month. I hope the outcome with Aetna insurance is the same as with Pacificare.

My point is, while having evidence that United has previously paid for this procedure for others may be helpful, your claim will probably stand on its own. I think most insurance companies are recognizing this as a reconstructive procedure vs. a cosmetic one. You may have to be United's first.

FYI - as for results... I had my first treatments (2 visits) a year ago... I went back last month to get some additional fill and will probably go back at least once more as my left cheek is still a bit hollow. Overall I'm very happy with the results. I don't know if Sculptra will be a permanent solution and it may require regular maintenance visits.

Good luck!

Sculptra for facial lipoatrophy & United Health Insurance

Has anyone had any experience with United Health Insurance and Sculptra for facial lipoatrophy. I am looking for people that have been approved or denied by United Health Insurance.I have lipoatrophy of the face and want to approach United Health Insurance to cover the cost of Sculptra for facial lipoatrophy. If I can find someone that they have covered this will make it easier for me to make a case. I will let the group now when I have had success so others that have United Health Insurance can follow the procedures I had to take. Thanks for your time and help.
