What works nicely for remedying the dry skin of Crixivan and other Protease Inhibitors is taking 2-3 grams of Evening Primrose Oil each day.

This is a source of GLA - gamma linolenic acid - the essential fat that also happens to be the moisture barrier in the skin. It takes about two to three weeks of supplementation for the skin to feel moist again.

Years ago when Crix first came out, I contacted Merk to see if they had any data of the effects of their PI on this essential fatty acid. Their research people did not even know what GLA was ! In the mean time they have not looked into it at all either.

Meanwhile, GLA is also fuel for peripheral lipases that lower cholesterol, so running low GLA can be a mechanism for raising LDL cholesterol. Having low testosterone levels is also another mechanism of why cholesterol can be elevated,

Raw sunflower seeds are also a source of GLA, so you might initially take Primrose Oil capsules for a month or two to remedy the dry skin. Then simply go on eating 1/4 cup of Sunflower seeds each day, to maintain adequate body levels.
