Guest guest
My name is and I have two beautiful daughters, Elise (11) who is " typical " and Sonja (4) who is autistic. Sonja's autism was very late onset, and still breaks my heart every time I think about it. She was a very normal, exceptionally sociable child up until a few months past her second brithday. She had a 200+ word vocabulary, was putting 3-4 word phrases together, was " helping " with household chores, had excellent eye contact, and met or exceeded all of her developmental milestones. After her second birthday she started to slip away from us. I won't make this too long, but we had several hearing and eye exams (under anethesia), an MRI, two EEGs, a PET scan, bloodwork, genetic screening, you name it. The doctors all scratched their heads. A year later, she was diagnosed with autism, although the doctor admitted that her case was very unusual. I'm convinced that something happened to her, but what? Her autism didn't really coincide with the MMR vaccine. I still hold out hope that someday we'll discover what happened. Meanwhile we have her on a 30 hour per week ABA (Lovaas style) program, GFCF diet (don't see much there), and are hoping for a breakthrough.
