Guest guest
Dustie, My son had RSV when he was 8 months old- he was breathing very heavily, and started vomiting with diarhhea also- RSV is VERY serious, and her level of oxygen saturation could be deteriorating, so I would take her either to your ped and demand breathing treatments or just go straight to the emergency room. I took him on a Sunday to the emergency room, he was not eating, would drink and just vomit it right back up, although his fever flucuated, the rapid heart beat will let you know also a red alert if the body does have a fever to be concerned about (he started out with a cold, and it blossomed into bronchiolitis and rsv- he would vomit the amoxicillin he was on too). The fact that she is a preemie, I would take her straight away to the ER just to be on the safe side. My son was in the hospital for 5 days, hooked up to an IV for hydration and slept inside a small plastic box inside of the crib for humidity to help his breathing better- and was given albuterol breathing treatments, a fine mist of medicine to help clear his airway, every 3 hours. A small oxygen count band-aid type deal was put on his index finger to check his oxygen saturation level. I can't believe your Doc is unconcerned, I have never heard of RSV taken lightly. Please keep me posted, I know the fear your having and I would say go with that gut and take her to the ER. ' Mom
Guest guest
Everybody..... If your kids catch RSV, you can get it from them! In our cases, as adults, we're likely to only have mild cold-like symptoms...but we can get it. So if your little one has RSV, wash your hands every chance you get, try to turn your head when they cough on you, and (this is the hard part) try not to kiss them on the mouth until they're better! .....no coughing on mommy and daddy! What an experience! I hope your little one doesn't have to go through all of that- but it was how they dx his RSV. Please let us know how she's doing! Guest guest
Dustie, Glad to hear that your little is breathing better after the treatment. We were given a machine that was delivered and used the albuterol and water and had to do that for a few more days. He hasn't had any breathing problems as a result of the rsv since. Sounds like she's doing fine, but keep a watchful eye as I'm sure you will! Thanks for the good news! I think after our experience my first reaction is PANIC and run to the hospital, so I'm glad to hear that she's no where near needing to be admitted- great news!! Keep us posted! Guest guest
Hey Dustie, I'm so sorry is sick. It can be very scary when they get RSV. Sara had it last year and spent 4 days in the hospital. I was told that when her respiration rate increased to above 60 breaths per minute that she needed to be seen right away. One night during dinner she was breathing quickly and we counted 72 breaths in a minute, so off we went to the ER. She rebounded a little bit, but 2 days later she was admitted. They did a chest x-ray and found that one of her lungs had a partial colapse from the virus, and I guess this is typical. They put her on steroids and breathing treatments and within 1/2 a day her appetite was back. The things they told us to do at home were to run a humidifier AND a cool mist vaporizer at the same time. I also had to suction out her nose all the time. We continued breathing treatments at home and she was better in no time. Now she is my healthiest child! Go figure. Let me add that this is when Sara's plagio worsened, and less than a month later we were working on getting her a DOC band. She had to sleep upright in her carseat so that she could breathe easier. Anyway, sorry to ramble on about my story. You could try the humidifier and vaporizer and suctioning, and hopefully you ped will hook you up with a nebulizer and some steroids (I think we used Xopenex). There is a lot available to treat the symptoms of RSV, so don't let them tell you there's not. My ped was on vacation when all this happened too, but the backup was very good. He even checked out Sam for free whenever he made his rounds at the hospital. Oh that was fun. Sam and Sara were still nursing, so the 3 of us spent 4 days in a tiny hospital room together while my husband kept things going at work and home with my other child. Hang in there, Dustie. Let us know what you find out. Gail Frustrated and Scared! Good Morning all. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this or known of anyone who has. Right now has been out of her helmet since Tuesday. GRRRRR So much for graduating anytime soon. Wednesday, she was DX with RSV, she takes injections monthly for this as she is a preemie. First, how in the world could she get this taking the injections? Doctors excuse sucks if you ask me. Other thing, Wednesday the doctor said there was nothing we could do for it unless she was having trouble breathing or was dehydrated. OK, she hasn't had anything in her body, but juice, tea, and kool-aid for 2 days. So she isn't dehydrated. She is breathing very heavily and her fever hasn't gone below 102.0 The highest is 104.0. I'm very scared about this and now she is seeing another doctor in the group today. Her ped has been out all week on vacation. Hmmmm.....I'm just getting extremely nervous down here. Anybody have any suggestions before I go?DustieFor more plagio info
Guest guest
Dustie, I am sorry is feeling so bad. I know how frustrating it can be. Jenna ran 104 all night. They wont give her an antibiotic because no ear infection, strep throat. I hope the doctor can get everything straightened out and make feel better. I feel stupid but what is RSV? My 3 kids were fullterm. It is so frustrating when the don't feel good. Please let us know what you find out! Angie and Jenna Frustrated and Scared! > Good Morning all. Guest guest
Oh Gail, 's bpm was 44 when the doctor checked her. Said that was good, I still hate this wait and see crap that I'm having to do. My husband is furious! He told the poor doctor just what he thought about it. lol I felt sorry for her for about a minute and then it dawned on me that he is a parent too. Thanks by the way for the kind words. I'll let Wesley know that this is normal treatment for RSV. Maybe he will feel better. Dustie --- In Plagiocephaly , " Gail " <momofivftwins@a...> wrote: > Hey Dustie, > I'm so sorry is sick. Guest guest
Hey Angie, don't feel bad, they won't give an antibiotic either. They say it is a virus. RSV is a very highly contagious (sp) virus that attacks the lungs and is common in ANY child under the age of 3 and hell, if you go to any search engine and type in RSV it will pull it up. I'm so upset right now and I know I'm not explaining it correctly. Dustie --- In Plagiocephaly , " Pope " <a.l.pope@w...> wrote: > Dustie, > > I am sorry is feeling so bad. Guest guest
, you are so smart. They checked her oxygen level and it was 99% and she said that was good. I know before they would let her come home from the hospital it had to be above 97%. They did give a breathing treatment and she seems to be breathing better. Thanks for you response. Guest guest
Dustie, A.J.'s daycare just sent home a note that a baby in his room has RSV. A.J.'s best buddy at daycare was just diagnosed yesterday as well. So of course we raced A.J. to doctor because he has had a virus for three weeks (temp at highest 102*). Our ped said A.J. didn't have it, but I am beginning to worry too. His cough is hacking and that is a sign of RSV. My niece was a preemie (born at 32 weeks 3lbs10oz) and had RSV. She wasn't given shot. She now has to have breathing treatments when she develops a cold and has trouble breathing. I believe it is chronic. Are you using Ibuderal? (sp?). That was prescribed to A.J.'s buddy. PLEASE keep us posted as to how is doing. > > I'm sorry I dont know anything about RSV, other than it is bad, But > I just > > wanted to say that I am sorry little is feeling so bad, and I > will have > > you both in my thoughts and I hope she is feeling better soon. > > > > Kari , Heidi, Faith, , and Gracie DOCBand since 12/02 > > Frustrated and Scared! > > > > > > > Good Morning all.
