Guest guest
I took to the ped today and she gave me the referral for physical therapy. She of course thinks his head will straighten out on it's own, but I was very adament that I wanted something done. I am just not the type to wait and see because what if it ends up being too late to fix a problem that could have been easily fixed? Ya know? She is also sending us to have a head u/s done to rule out anything inside. We go for the physical therapy evaluation tomorrow and the u/s next Wed. So I guess we will go from there. I was a little annoyed by a comment the ped made... she said that she normally would not do any kind of helmet or band unless she sees that the parents are bothered by the head shape. Because if the parents are bothered then the child will be bothered. It just kinda make me feel like she thought I was too worried about the way he looks and I might make him feel like he didn't look right as he got older??? I don't know... I just want what is best for my child and I do not want him having any phyical or mental problems later on because we didn't do anything now. Okay, I must go make dinner for the babies. They are in the other room doing their hunger whine. I just wanted to update everyone on how the appt. went! Thanks again! PROUD Mommy to... Guest guest
Thanks ! ) Do most peds consider this a cosmetic issue or something??? I mean I know it is, but when it involves half of your face being pushed forward I would have to think it would cause a little concern. LOL Oh well! I guess I shouldn't care if she thinks I am being a superficial parent that only is concerned with the way her child looks. As long as she is working with me to give me what I want that is all that matters. LOL PROUD Mommy to... Guest guest
Hi , It sounds as if your ped has the same attitude a lot of our peds have. But it's NOT up to them whether or not we band our babies! I'm so happy to hear that you stood your ground! Unless your ped can give you a written guarantee that 's head will round out on it's own, you need to do what you feel is best for your son. Please let us know how the PT eval and the u/s go! Good luck. > I took to the ped today and she gave me the referral for physical > therapy. Guest guest
Hello , Good for you for standing your ground. My ped. did not want A.J. to be helmeted but gave in and wrote prescription. Now one and a half months later the other ped in her practice says that A.J. won't have to be in helmet much longer. That although he is still flat he is symmetrical. " A little flatness is normal. " Well if you look at A.J.'s head shots (Adam ph in photos) he is still flatter than a pancake! As much as I wish it was true, I know he's not ready to graduate. They can't wait to get him out for some reason. > > I took to the ped today and she gave me the referral for > physical > > therapy. Guest guest
Hi : Well - sounds like you got a common response from your pediatrician. It sounds like she's referred MAtthew for a CTscan to rule out craniosynostosis (premature fusion of the skull bones). That's always good to have done, just to be 100% sure it's positional plagio & not cranio.. If you want to get into a helmet, good for you! It's not for YOURSELF or your husbands sake, it's for . That comment she made to you about she'd get it only for the parents so the parent wouldn't complex the child, that really irritates me! How rude! Good luck next wk w/everything. Guest guest
, Yeesh, I'm annoyed by what your ped said too!! I really don't understand why peds take such a laid back attitude towards plagio. I sure as heck didn't get my twins banded to make me feel better! Don't these drs get it that this thing called UNcondonditional love we have for our kids means we accept our kids...flatness and assymetry included. What we can't and won't accept is sitting idly by doing nothing about plagio, when it is not merely a cosmetic issue. Anyway, I'm glad that the ped took your concerns serious enough to order an ultra sound. Please let us know how that goes! By the way, I am extremely late with this, but welcome to the group!! Guest guest
, I felt the same kind of attitude with my ped-it was very subtle and she made me feel like I was overreacting, said it would round out, but said, "what do you want me to do?" Write that referral! She still convinced me that it was my overreaction and I left without it, but then called her back and said do it. She did and has since his 8 mnth check up, commented on how wonderful his head looks! I am so glad that I was able to educate myself and get a heads up from parents here about correction time frames and the consensus on the round out theory, doesn't always happen and like you, it was a risk I didn't want to take. Great that you got that pt referral! Let us know how the pt appt. goes! Your Doctor will be changing her tune when correction starts taking shape!
