Guest guest
Hi, Welcome to the group. First of all, it is entirely up to you whether or not you band your son! It's not the decision of your ped or neurosurgeon. The only thing your ped or the ns need to do is write you a script. They can't tell you, you can't band your baby!!! We have quite a few members that have used/use the Oakbrook CT. They all rave about it. While repositioning can correct plagio, it doesn't work for everyone! It is up to you if you want to continue to reposition or not. Does your son have torticollis, it's a tight neck muscle. Some babies have a tilt too. If you notice your son really only looks to one side it could be torticollis. When it comes to banding, the younger you band a baby the better and faster the correction will be. I am all for repositioning, if you're seeing improvement and the baby doesn't have torticollis. If not, you could very well be wasting your time. If you were to band your son now, you would most likely get 100% correction. It really makes me mad that your pediatricain told you to do nothing. How ignorant is he/she? I'm sorry if you think that is rude, but he really has no right telling parent to do nothing. He can't guarantee you that your son's plagio will correct on it's own. Some babies do round out but some babies don't. I think most don't. Like I said, it's YOUR decision to make, not your peds or the ns, if you want to band your son, do it!! No matter what you decide to do, you'll have our support. Please keep us posted and good luck. > I have a son that is 4 months old. We have taken him to my > pediatrician. Guest guest
Thanks for your support it nice to know that I'm not alone out here. Just had a question. How long does it usually take to get a band ? Assuming that you already have a perscription. "stripes6060 <taime@...>" <taime@...> wrote: Hi,Welcome to the group. Guest guest
Welcome to the group! You are definitely not alone. There seems to be so many physicians out there who are simply not educated about tort and plagio and the benefits of early intervention. A band or helmet usually takes up to two weeks to get in after your little one has been measured or “casted” for one. They try to keep the window of time under two weeks because those little brains are growing rapidly. Have you considered going to another pediatrician? & JD (casted for DOCband) TX -----Original Message----- From: Rika Intriago [mailto:rikasdylan@...] Sent: Thursday, February 20, 2003 1:36 AM Plagiocephaly Subject: Re: Re: Parent of plagio child/ Aurora, IL Thanks for your support it nice to know that I'm not alone out here. Guest guest
Welcome to the group! A lot of us can relate to not having our concerns taken seriously by doctors! If CT said to try repositioning for a month, then I would follow their advice. But, if it's been 3 weeks with no improvement, you may want to call and set up another appointment. Did they take pictures? Those will be great to see if there actually was any improvement that you may not notice b/c you see him everyday. My son was banded from 5-8 months. He had moderate plagio and got pretty perfect correction, including his asymmetries. From the time we made the decision to band him until he actually got his band was 2.5 weeks. But, I think our case was a bit faster than most. Our ped didn't give us a problem with writing the script and never ordered CT scans. Our insurance denied us within 3 business days, so we didn't have to wait around for that. If you are sure you want to go with the band, then just call them now and get everything set up. Ask them to recommend a plagio friendly doctor. Dane's mom DOC Grad > I have a son that is 4 months old. We have taken him to my > pediatrician. Heaven forbid you go on the internet & actually receive some education regarding plagio! What a dope!! *sorry, that kinda irritated me* Good for you taking matters into your own hands! Too bad the neuro also told you not to worry. Glad to hear you've already been to Cranial Tech - we also got our daughter's band from the Oakbrook office, rec'd great care! They probably felt your son is young enough yet, that repositioning a bit longer may benefit and avoid the need for a band. If you have not seen any correction in 3 wks, you may want to call your ped again and demand to have your concerns taken seriously - if he won't, then find a new ped.. We all know how you feel. Your son is still at the perfect age to get correctioon from a band and even repositioning yet. Good luck, please let us know what happens. Guest guest
I'm sorry to hear of the resistance you have met. I'm appalled that your ped didn't even recommend repositioning - that is terrible! Repositioning is an excellent treatment option - it has worked wonders for some of the parents/babies in this group. Unfortunately it does not work for everyone. At 4 months you could reposition for another month and then pursue the band. Your baby would still be at a great starting age. If CT told you to reposition for another month perhaps they think the plagio is mild? Did they give any indication as to the severity? Also, was torticollis mentioned? That condition can sometimes make repositioning very difficult. Take a bunch of pictures from all different angles if you haven't already done so and if you decide to continue to repositioning take additional pictures frequently so you can check progress. I'm glad you have continued to pursue this despite the lack of support you have received from the medical community. Hang in there! Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma > I have a son that is 4 months old. Guest guest
Rika, I emailed you my phone# since you are only a few towns away from me. If you like you can call me or if you prefer you can email me off the board. Who knows maybe we will run into each other, like at the FoxValley mall and you can see a Band Baby.
