Angie,

Is Marisa a stimmer? Sometimes I think everything Ella does is a stim! Intead of

stir crazy, I am going stim crazy!

But on a better note Ella is trying so hard to talk...all day yesterday, she

almost said cookie!!!Ella gets really frustrated when I make her watch my mouth

saying things she rubs her eyes or nose a lot ( a little tick she has) and then

if she really doesnt want to she starts kinda hitting her ears a little and

trying to not listen.

I feel bad asking her to speak, but I feel like if she doesnt get frustrated

sometimes she wont learn!

Marisa is 2 1/2. She also loves the swing and does much better at

therapy after some type of sensory thing. That is great she is saying

more. I would not worry about her not talking if she is already

signing and starting to say more. I read the same study as Amnesty

that only 14% of ASD kids don't talk. They are usually just very

late. Marisa will babble but never any words. Her motor planning

sounds worse than Ella's, And I worry it also effects her oral motor

planning also. She is not even close to walking down stairs, can't

bend her knees and keep her balance. She also goes backwards and just

learned to walk up them.

Most DAN drs do not take ins. but I have heard of a few who do.

Your best bet is to contact your local autism group and see if people

locally use a DR they can tell you about if not look on the internet. I

forget the site. Search for DAN dr's and they list by state. Good

Yes Marisa stims more now then when she was Ella's age. It has to do

with putting more demands on her I think. She stims on the lights

when she eats 100% of the time, and she stims on noisy toys pushing

the button over and over. She always loves to hear how things

sounds. She will stand in fron of the microwave(its low in our

cabinets and watch the lights on it.) When you are not working she

hardly stims and has great eye contact but during therapy she will not

look me in the eye. Doesn't want to work I think.

Sometimes its to tell she is autistic. We went to the lake on

Sunday and she played just like the other kids it was great to see.

It is GREAT Ella is starting to talk, and I would push her also.

You don't want to make her upset but the more you make her talk the

faster it will come. Marisa will say MOMMOM sometimes but that is

it. I am afaid her motor planning is getting in the way of her

talking. She can pick out some colors, objects, and all her family

but not say anything. She is just starting to look other kids in the

eye and smile. Great news on Ella's talking, keep it up. Angie Lesh

Angie,

I bet your head hurts at the end of the day! Ella says mommom too!!!:D

The first time she said it was during our stay at the hospital for an eeg! It

broke my heart seeing her there, and she started using mommom then. Her attempt

at " more " are still slowly coming. Developement is sometimes like a sloth in our

kiddos. I feel like ella really wants to talk, but motor planning may be a

problem too. I see her get frustrated or stop and open her mouth, but nothing

comes out.

I love those normal moments too. We use to have more of them but as ella gets

older, we stand out more. I dont get to forget about the autism very often.

Sometimes at the park ella does really good, and plays a bit with other kids,

well i guess she plays along side them. She is distracted by the swings at the

park lately, because she doesnt want to do anything else but swing. I spend a

lot of the day redirecting her.

Does Marisa like movies?

Oh yeah almost forgot Ellas new stim...spitting! She blows little spit bubbles

out and lets them sit there...its real pretty!

Weare making her wipe the spit with a little rag herself, with hand over hand,

in hopes to curve the behavior. She doesnt do it all the time...i hope its just

a faze.

How is Marisa with water? Bath? Pools?

Hi again Aimee I love your spitting story. I know alot of kids spit

I don't know why that is. The good side of that is she is getting

good oral motor workout spitting. That is good oral motor planning,

there is always a good side if we look close enough. Marisa is also

standing out more as she gets older alot of it is she grunts when

excitied or flaps her arms looks silly I know. But last summer she

wasn't even walking yet and yesterday I watched her walk up the

stairs at the park about 10m times. She was slow but 1 month ago she

would of bear walked up them. She likes the swings to but also likes

to just walk up the stairs, she gets so excitied to be there she just

smiles alot. She can not figure out how to go from standing to

sitting down to go down the slide. She LOVES the water any kind she

just splashes alot, she even figured out how to turn on the sink

water. Works great to get her to hold still for ponytails.

I really believe the Biomed is the key to all this stuff. They

have trouble learning or doing anything if there little bodies are so

toxic. Did you watch MOntel? Great show. How is Ella's cognitive

skills? Does she understand touch the cow, touch mom, where's the

ballon? I thought Marisa was doing well for her age till I went to

her school, there is a boy 24 months old that can point to or name

all colors, animal, anything and everything, even knows the diff.

between firetruck, towtruck, police car. That makes me want to cry,

my boys were three before they know those things and they are NT.

Hope Ella is well is keeps getting better every day. P.S. Was she

sick alot as a baby or toddler? Angie Lesh Take Care

Someone said at a biomedical conference that spitting might cease with

morel liquids, that it might be a result of low hydration. Don't know

how truthful that is, thought I'd pass it on though.

Debi,

If I gave Ella anymore liquids, she might float away...I think its just a water

stim. Ella is stimming on water everywhere now she wants to rub it like finger

paint, and put her lips on water too. Not fun when its dirty rain water on my

patio furniture!

Hey, Ella doesnt label things very well. When i tell her to point to the duck or

the cow sometimes she gets it right, but most of the time she just points at

anything because i am asking her to point. If I tell her to go get something she

usaually doesnt understand what I mean. I think ella sometimes understand

gestural things better than verbal. My fear is that we will find out she is

mentally retarded later and she wont develope those cognitive skills. Its all

like a guessing game right now, i hate it. Ella was never sick...not even a

runny nose until about 1 year old, actually right about 14 months after her mmr!

Ella has had food intolerance problems since birth though. No dairy, no

soy...plus she was constipated for the first 18 months of life, now shes a bit

better, since we took her to a GI! Ella has kinda been sick a lot in the last 6

months, strange to me considering she never even got sick as a baby.

Ella had strep about a month after her diagnosis, she was really sick. I dont

think vaccines caused her autism, but I dont think they helped. I feel these

kiddos have comprimized immune systems in some way, be it gut or whatever and

they just cant handle all the vaccinations that most children can...i dont know,

but just thinking about it makes me sick. I cant bring myself to give her

anymore vaccines, my husband and I just cant do it...I will feel horrible if she

gets mumps or rubella, but I couldnt watch them inject her again, not after what

I know now...I wish I knew then what I know now...but thats life!

Sad today

missing a little girl

one i never had

one i never will

missing her voice

missing her eyes

so confused by her cries

sad today

sad for me...

sad for you

how i love her so

i wonder if she'll ever know!
