We have been doing SCD for a many years and its pretty simple! I now use

potatoes and rice also as I am happy to have these in his diet.

To bake SCD (put simply) you need to remove GFCF four and use almond flour

instead. You need to remove potatoes and rice and use butternut squash! I use

oil in cooking (organic sunflower) and I sweeten with honey (no sugar allowed!)

We use bicarb soda instead of baking soda too! Most things are easy to make

following normal recipe and using these substitutes! You can by SCD specific

burgers and sausages (and lovely bacon) etc from Devon Rose who deliver!

This is a great site for recipes and info too

PS. I have just found out my son (9) has H-pylori even though he was scoped 4

years ago and it didnt show up then, but he did have the relevant inflammation

apparently it is hard to always get a positive result. I think this is the cause

of his stomach pains for years, and the SCD diet although helps to makes it

easier on the tummy, wont get rid of that bacteria!!

Hi Margaret,

We've been doing the SCD for about 19 months now and we've had amazing

improvements in my son from doing it. I would suggest you look at the site

www.pecanbread.com and there's also a very active yahoo group for them. They're

US based but there are lots of people from elsewhere on the group. The site is

basically dedicated to children with autism doing SCD and there is a wealth of

information on there about how to do the diet / recipes / suppliers etc.

Feel free to email me about anything else to do with the diet that you want to

know - not as experienced as the other poster but very happy to try and help!

Best wishes,

Lorna

Hi, I can only speak as a relative novice. My very energetic nearly four year

old has been scd a few months and we do experience the things you are concerned

about. We have good and bad days and sometimes break the rules (like when he

starts eating play doh because he's craving carbs!).

I make him squash " chips " cut into thin chip shape smothered in olive oil plus

salt and rosemary and baked. Helps if you have electric fan oven. Pumpkin also

works in season.

Also anything with nuts. He goes on and off (gets bored I think) but almonds (

or pecans and hazelnuts work well), egg, honey, bicarb of soda. Dry mix for

biscuits. Wetter for muffins and you can add blueberries or dates or banana. Or

savoury version for bread. I've used cashews on this.

If eggs are ok I make Omelette and add veg pulp from the juicer, sometimes

almond flour or psyllium husk.

Also found a good butcher who makes pure meat sausages Or adds leek or tomatoes.

There's an American group called pecan bread and a web site of the same name

with children's scd recipes.

Like Sophie we found that scd alone did not clear bacteria but helped sustain

after antibiotics. Guts still out of balance but much better than before and

importantly poos are always good :-)

Best of luck.

Hi MargaretWe're not doing SCD.  I've replied simply as you have said you are in Yorkshire and so are we - I've not aware of anyone else near to us doing biomed.  It would also be good to know of anyone else in our region.  Are you in touch with anyone else locally.

Hello, I haven't posted for a while but we had a consultation with Dr

Yeoh at The Breakspear last week and she has suggested we move from the

GF/CF diet (nearly eight years later!) to SCD with my twelve year old

son and I don't really know where to start ... other than here! Sorry

if this is a bit long ...

We had the GF/CF diet more or less sussed, although as my son is

mainstream and very social so whenever he went to people's houses or

away on trips, he would take HNI enzymes. Most of the time he is doing

very well both in and out of school, but he does have an ongoing issue

with weekly tummy aches and occasional bouts of vomiting. Both issues

have decreased over the years, partly helped when we took out

boiled/fried/scrambled eggs, too, but they ARE still there - and often,

but not always, co-incide with times of heightened emotions: anxieties

re SATS or sport event, and evn birthday and christmas - when he really

is NOT negatively emotional!

He has been having CBT with his therapist (he was on ABA for several

years but no longer needs their input) since he started secondary school

last September but the anxieties continue - although not at school

where he is much happier than at primary - so I think Dr Yeoh is right

and it is worth trying the SCD. Howver, at 165cm and weighing just 45k

(and with hollow legs and doing various sports up to eight times a week

- and that's apart from PE!), I can't imagine how I will fill him up and

he not lsoe weight! My husband (a similar build to my son) is an

insulin-dependent diabetic who runs so needs LARGE amounts of complex

carbs, so a family change to all SCD is out of the question - my husband

would quickly end up on the floor with hypoglycaemia and

life-threatening fits - so I am, understandably, anxious about how to do

this.

I am also not an experienced baker (having been with a type 1 diabetic

for 20 years), so I really need the easiest/tastiest recipes for bread

and muffins and any advice people have, please, such as breadmachines,

do I need a yoghurt maker, should he still be casein free (he's been

doing very well on goat's milk so far)! I am up in Yorkshire and don't

know anyone here who is doing SCD but if there is a specific support

group, preferably in the UK, I'd love to know! Thanks for reading

this!
