Guest guest
Hi we have not done tlp but ils and yes bone conductor does make a difference you can read about bone conductor but in short words your kid learns to hear not only through sound but also resonance so you do not only hear music as you feel it as well it is a total awakening of the hearing system but vestibular as well. Guest guest
We actually turned the sound right down and just left the bone conductor for the first cycle and progressively introduced sound and increased bone conductor ........ just to say that my son is really sensitive to sound we started several times without bone conductor without success even the lower pitch sound were difficult for him to cope with. Guest guest
Hi ,Thankyou for the information.I am guessing you meant the Sennheiser HD 515 were more comfortable than the bone conduction ones? Could I also ask how long you left between cycles and what sort of benefits you saw? Many thanks for sharing your knowledge. Sue To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Sent: Wednesday, 29 February 2012, 0:08 Subject: Re: Headphones for The Listening Program You might want to consider whether the bone conduction would provide too much input for your particular child and whether they would be tolerable as the vibrating sensation isn't particularly pleasant. The sennheiser HD 515 ones that we bought are more uncomfortable than the bone conduction headphones. I was glad when we did the sensory CDs that we had already done the disc cycle once with the ordinary sennheiser ones as the going got quite rough for 3 weeks or so with lots of aggression. When we borrowed the bone conduction ones the reaction got progressively less with each cycle (we have now done 3 cycles). Our son is pretty sensitive to listening therapies. I think in hindsight it would have been better to have a longer break between cycles. Depending on the age and adaptability of your child it might be worth planning some getting used to wearing the headphones time before beginning the cycle. The headphones do have to be good ones even if they aren't bone conduction maybe ask the provider what has just been dropped in terms of spec recommendation as TLP upgrade the spec fairly frequently - you could then look for the just dropped headphones on eg Amazon - anyway thats what we did after our son broke the first pair. Hope you get good results from TLP. Subject: Headphones for The Listening ProgramTo: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Date: Tuesday, 28 February, 2012, 9:54 We are just about to start TLP with DS and need to buy some headphones. Our therapist has recommended the Bone Conduction ones but has told us we could also buy the much cheaper Senheisser. My question is do the bone conduction really make much of a difference? We are being quoted £750. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Sue

Guest guest
Thanks to everyone who responded.Another question is, would it still work if I just did 15mins of the program once per day and not twice as you should? My OT said it would still work but would just take twice as long.( I hope she is right because I don't think I could fit a session in before school as mornings are a crazy rush and stress levels high!)I would be very interested to hear the sort of gains /problems people experienced with TLP . It would give me an idea of what to be looking out for. Really appreciate your time. Thanks. Guest guest
We just do once a day. I havent used it yet for my son with autism but for my other son who has dyslexia it helps with concentration and attention span. We are on our second course now (last was 4 years ago) and his school work is improving. We have ethe senneister headphones. Our provider said the bone conducing ones make a more intense programme, I wasnt sure my son with autism would cope with that anyway as he is very sensitive x > > Thanks to everyone who responded. > > Another question is, would it still work if I just did 15mins of the program once per day and not twice as you should? Guest guest
The schedule that your TLP Provider suggests depends on the client. There are several protocols to follow the extended schedule being one of them which is 1 x 15 min session per day, there is also a schedule which is 2 x 15 min sessions per day with a minumium of a 30 minute gap between sessions. Then there is 1 x 30 mins and there is now an advanced schedule of 1 hour/day. In between all of these is individualised protocols and many people have talked about the ways in which they have managed, especially when their child is very sensitive to sound. The standard protocol is 2 cycles of TLP - but, again this is open to change for an individual. If you do 15 minutes a day, it will take twice as long as doing 30 minutes a day. The length of time the course takes is not as important as doing the whole course. Guest guest
Thanks Mandi. I think this is why our provider has suggested we wait a few more weeks for assessment. - thank you so much for making me aware of Dilys Treharne. It has made it so much easier with her been local to us. Alison R Alison we saw more things about 6 weeks after we stopped with both my NT and Sam Mx We have just completed TLP with our 4 year old son. As he is only at morning nursery we aimed to do 2 x 15 minute sessions per day. We managed this 2-3 times per week then once a day for the other 2 or 3. I believe you can opt for the once a day option. We will shortly be going for another assessment to see if he has improved. I don't see his speech to be much clearer but the pattern of his speech has definitely improved and he has started singing all the time. He couldn't sing at all before! I guess the clarity of speech is something that now needs to be learned so we will be doing speech therapy shortly. I think we will probably re-visit TLP in a couple of years when we have removed more of his toxic load. BW Alison R Thanks to everyone who responded. Guest guest
Thank you all for so much feedback. We will start TLP as soon as I buy some headphones (not the bone conduction sort- too expensive for us at the moment). It was good to hear you can get good results with the airwave headphones. I feel excited about trying the program as there are obviously many of you who have had good results.
