Guest guest
Hi, We have a 4 year old who acts exactly the same as you are describing. She can talk, but sometimes has a very hard time communicating to us what is going on. Sometimes she doesn't know the words to describe something, so the terrible behavior is what happens. One time that it happened, we found out that she had a Urinary tract infection. It hurt her but we didn't know, and she didn't know how to tell us. I only guessed because I have them frequently, and we've been told if you give little girls a bath in bubbles to often that they can get them. My mother in-law was over at the time, staying for 2 weeks and she kept giving her bubble bath's everyday, even though we asked her not to. So we took her in and told that to the doctors, and it was a nightmare trying to get a urine sample, but we did and she had a urinary tract infection. So they treated her and the tantrums stopped for a while. Other times it has been because she has very acidic poop and it hurts her and she again didn't know how to tell us. We realized because she kept grabbing at herself and when we looked there were open sores on her bottom. The doctor prescribed a cream, but then said to use non-sented preparation-H wipes on her instead of normal diaper wipes. Made a huge difference. Other times its because she needed water and she would just tell us Drinky and we would give her juice or milk, because normally she won't drink water. So she would keep saying drinky and then we would give it to her and these terrible tantrums would happen and she would throw her sippy cup at us and scream for 45 minutes hurting herself and trying to hurt everyone else, and then she would ask for a drinky again, and when we didn't give her water, the same thing happened until we tried water, she drank the whole thing and asked for more and was fine. I think she may have a blood sugar problem, I have diabetes so I would not be suprized. ANyhow, I am very against putting her in a hospital psych area. Try everything else first. It could be something as simple as needing water, not medicine or a psychologist. Usually when our daughter does these horrible tantrums, it is because she can't figure out how to communicate to us what she needs, and she thinks the more dramatic she makes it, the easier it will be for us to figure out. Just like when someone is trying to convey English to another speaking language, they think the louder they shout or the more they yell, the other person will finally guess what they are saying. Hope this helps. Esther --- Clayton wrote: > Hi All > > Well Kayla's behariors have gotten worse. Guest guest
Hannah has behavior problems due to communication delays because of her autism. She does well with the PECS system. ________________________________ From: Autism_in_Girls on behalf of Esther Sent: Thu 9/15/2005 1:37 PM To: Autism_in_Girls Subject: Horrible tantrums Hi, We have a 4 year old who acts exactly the same as you are describing.
