Hello,

Just remembered this bit and set about to write

Many of us maybe foodies, who try and go all the way out to taste good

food,during train journey.

Fali(82) was one of them.

Once,me and Amol Kulkarni(84),had the fortune of travelling with him from

S'gram-Mumbai,by the late

night train(?Sewagram express).

We were informed by him that we would reach Nasik station at around 11.30am,next

day and the train

would halt for 6-8mins and we had to run to the other platform canteen pick up

piping hot packets of

Chicken biryani and rush back to board our train.

Me and Amol developed cold feet,b'cos both of us wer unsure if we could make it

back,so Fali decided

to go all alone.

It was sheer mastery to see him, jump out of the slowing train first, climb some

60odd stairs and then go

down another 60odd,and with a bit of push and pull, manage to get 3 packets and

then rush back in

mere 5mins.

The result, ofcourse very yummy biryani, the best I had,in any railway platform in

India.

This was way back in 1986,when we were in 2nd MBBS.

After that,me and Amol, would follow the routine and only once,we narrowly missed

our train.

So,guys try it out. It's worth the adventure.

yaar Shyam, alls well, but i have noticed that when i travel by railways

i am reluctant to stary too far away from the train. whether it is

growing old or whether i cant run fast enough or what i dunno. on wardhe

to pune it used to be kachoris at shegaon, vadas at wardha east. on

mumbai pune route it was batata wadas at khandala; on delhi to wardha

trip it was tea in mud pots at jhansi, petha at mathura/agra etc etc

cheers Malini

With regards
