Guest guest
Does anyone have any knowledge about Carers Allowance. Does it alter the amount of DLA a person gets? Can both be claimed? ~-|**|PrettyHtmlEnd|**|-~ end group email -->

Guest guest
I think getting it it depends on whether the carer already has other income above a certain level. The carer has to look after the person for at least 35 hours a week. It has no effect on DLA. Margaret > > > Does anyone have any knowledge about Carers Allowance. Guest guest
Yes you can earn upto about £100 a week after you have taken off legitimate expenses(think childcare etc counts). If your partner works their income is not taken into account, ie only the person who claims the allowance has their income taken into account. If your partner works their income is not taken into account, ie only the person who claims the allowance has their income taken into account. But if the person being cared for gets severe disability premium that will be taken away if the carer gets awarded the carers allowance.Same if i tried to claim carers allowance for looking after my gran. -- is
Guest guest
I don't think that's quite correct. I know that carer's allowance stops once the cared for person reaches retirement age (don't know why), so that might be why it couldn't be claimed. I don't know what the rules are for adults of working age. Margaret > > > > > > > Yes you can earn upto about £100 a week after you have taken off > > legitimate expenses(think childcare etc counts). Guest guest
I think once the carer becomes a pensioner it stops too,or it may just have to be taken into account and deducted in some way from the pension credits etc, I don't think that's quite correct. Guest guest
saying that by the time we all retire we'll probably be too old to do much caring at this rate I don't think that's quite correct.
