Guest guest
My asthma was WAY out of control, over period of a year and a half I had about 7 prednisone bursts and nothing seemed to improve it. Went to National Jewish and within 3 days they had a real good idea of what was going on (turned out to be a combination of reflux and Vocal Cord Dysfunction) since my meds were changed by them I have not had a major attack and I am hoping when the gerd is surgically taken care of I will be able to get off of meds. (going there I was on 9, now I am on 4) My insurance covered everything, (Anthem) with the exception of a sleep study (required preauthorization that was not able to be approved in time) The biggest reason they are the best is that they assume nothing and test for everything. You will feel like the test will never end, but when they are done, you will have a treatment plan and will most likely be doing better soon. From what I hear most insurances cover it as they know that the end result will be less er visits, less dr visits and usually less meds. I know if I have a flare up and the local docs can't figure out what is going on, I will go back... > Our daughter who is 4 is still having problems with controlling her > asthma she has been in the hospital 5 times this past year, and sick > in between hospitalizations but was able to be treated and not be > admitted. Guest guest
My Dr.s have recommended that I go out to Denver to National Jewish. I developed Asthma at 49 and and I am now almost 54 and the last 2 years my asthma has been out of control. Also had sinus surgery for chronic sinusitis. Never smoked or had any respiratory illness in my life. Have had mold problem in our house which has just been taken care of. Doctors her are stumped as to what is causing it. No allergies to anything, have had several blood tests, x-rays, broncoscopys and now CF tests. On Prednisone every month plus Spirava, Foradil, QVar, Intal, Singulair etc. So I am so hoping they can help me. Still fighting with insurance to get them to pay. It was so good to hear how they have helped Mike. Am hoping for some answers. Guest guest
Hi June, Thanks for responding. It is tough, I am still having a hard time excepting it. I went to visit my brother last week and had a severe attack and was almost admitted to the hospital. Had been to his house several times before with no problems. Thank goodness for Prednisone as it kept me out of the hospital. But scary when you get an attack and you don't know why. I will have to check out their interactive diary for my Doctor's also. If I get to go to National Jewish it will not be until Feb or March as they are booked that far in advance. Hang in there! Maybe I will find some answers that would be helpful to you also. Guest guest
The website AsthmaStory.com has a research section that has some interesting studies from the National Jewish Hospital. It's a good hospital. The studies on the asthmastory.com site correspond to research they were doing relating asthma to bacteria Chlamydia pneumoniae. http://www.AsthmaStory.com > Our daughter who is 4 is still having problems with controlling her > asthma she has been in the hospital 5 times this past year, and sick > in between hospitalizations but was able to be treated and not be > admitted.
