Guest guest
Hi, The casting isn't any fun but it is over quick!! If she takes a pacifier bring it w/you. Bring her bottle and her favorite musical toys. The babies do cry, but only b/c they don't like being held down not b/c they are in pain. It will be over before you know it. Good luck and please let us know how it goes. > Hi all. > Thanks to all of you who responded to my last post about whether or > not to choose helmet tx. Guest guest
Hi Teri: What band/helmet will be casted for? STAR, DOC, local? Check out this link - it is in our group " files " section if the link does not work " casting process " . There are pictures of the casting for a DOCband procedure and handy tips to make it a bit easier. I won't lie to ya, most babies do scream their heads off, but it's not inflicting any pain whatsoever to them. They just hate being held down and are frightened. Once it's done & over, they are back to their happy selves within minutes, trust me! I went thru 4 castings w/my daughter Plagiocephaly/files/Casting%20process%20for%20the%\ 20DOC%20Band/ Good luck, please let us know how it goes. Guest guest
Are you going to Tom with Hanger? We have several members that are going and who have graduated from Tom. My Jenna went to ette in Independence Missouri(Hanger). Her specialist is Doctor Singhal. Jenna wore her helmet 3 months and received about 80% correction. We are thrilled. She was a little over 9 months when she started. Jenna was moderate to severe. The casting only lasted about 10 minutes. We brought a few of her favorite toys, a bottle and ette had toys in the room. A musical toy really helped Jenna. She didn't fuss until the very end when they were taking it off. Good luck with the casting. Guest guest
I am going to ette too! We decided to drive a little farther for a woman's touch. I guess that might be silly, but you know how it is. I am so happy to hear that Jenna only had to wear her helmet for 3 months and received 80%!! THat is wonderful! We are looking at having to wear it through the entire summer if we have to go 6 months like Dr. Singhal wrote on the script. I am hoping and praying that we can get an early graduation date. 's head circumference is onlyl 42cm and ette said that the best chances of response in a quicker time is when the head is less than 46cm so we have our fingers crossed that lots of growth spurts will be coming our way. But not until after we get the helmet please! Thanks for the message. Teri & Pope <a.l.pope@...> wrote: Are you going to Tom with Hanger? Guest guest
Jenna's original script was for 6 months. That is just an estimate. I bet will not have to go for 6 months especially if she is 7 months.(is that right). ette is so great. Lydia is wonderful too. She always talked to Jenna and my other kids. ette never rushes you and will answer all your questions. Jenna loved her. She was so great with Jenna. Jenna had a big spurt between casting and being fitted. That was bad but everything still worked out great!! Jenna didn't have any big growth spurts in circumference while banded. Her diagonals improved every visit though. She hit a big growth spurt her last few days in her helmet. Please feel free to email anytime. a.l.pope@.... You will be so glad you decided to band. We are so thrilled with Jenna's correction and I know I have done everything I could! Let us know how casting goes. What insurance do you have? Are the covering. I am getting ready to start my 2nd appeal. Angie and Jenna (STARband grad 1/21/03) Re: Re: Any advice for casting? is going to get a STAR band. Thanks for the advice! Guest guest
Teri, the casting is the worst part of the whole process. screamed the whole time. Good thing, they quit screaming as soon as it is over!! It doesn't last and within a few minutes laughing. Take a sucker, bottle, pacifer (if she takes one) Anything that will help keep her mind off of what is going on around her. Good luck and she will be fine and you will also. I think I took the casting worse than did. Dustie, mom to , DOCband 12/23/02 > Hi all. > Thanks to all of you who responded to my last post about whether or > not to choose helmet tx. Guest guest
Hi Teri I do have one tip to offer you - if there isn't a hole cut in the stocking they use for the baby's eyes and nose - request it - from what I read about casting before I had Isabella's done is that they typically use a stocking to cover the entire face, which is the part the babies hate most. At the Hanger location I went to, they had cut a small opening in the stocking just large enough to expose baby's eyes and nose and I think it definitely helped that she was able to see me the whole time (although she was definitely quite annoyed with the whole process ;-)). Also, they give you a smock to cover your clothes but the plaster gets everywhere - bring an extra shirt for yourself in addition to an extra onesie for baby. Good luck!
