I am looking for effective ways to meditate. I have tried many approaches, but my mind still races with thoughts. Any ideas from people with active minds who are successfully meditating daily?

It is normal that your mind races with thoughts. That is what the mind does "to think". The trick is not to focus in those thoughts but observe them as if you were watching TV. Just watch them without following them, that means, not to elaborate about thouse thoughts.

It helps if you repeat a nonsense word while you meditate. A mantra is exactly that, something to focus your mind in and let the thoughts to flow. When ever you find yourself following the thoughts, just return to the "mantra".

One very good one is "sheerings" pronounced as SHE RINGS

Hope that help. Try it out and do it twice a day at the same time in order to give discipline to your mind and never for more than 20 min.
