Guest guest
Hi All, I've recovered from the trip down for April Foods Day and the night of work and no sleep that came before it. The weather is great up here! The rabbits are showing their enjoyment of their cage-free living environment by producing babies. I know of 4 litters for a total of approximately 16 babies. Two does are in large dog kennels with their litters - they were too nervous about becoming moms to figure out where to do it. One had her litter above ground and one below ground. Those are the ones I know about. There could be more underground that I haven't seen yet. Fanciers of rabbit meat, take heart. They will be at the Warehouse in the coming months. Any chicken recipe works for rabbit. Check out the nutritional stats on rabbit and be pleasantly surprised. Since everyone asked, I counted beaks and there are 31 Coturnix quail including Glen. There are 29 Bobwhite not counting babies still in the house. Those numbers will be increasing shortly. I'll be hatching out more Coturnix. I've bought some eggs - several different color mutations of Bobwhite and some Button quail. For those who thought Glen is cute, wait 'til you see the Buttons! Some of those Buttons will be available for sale as pets (bonus - they'll provide you with itty bitty breakfast eggs too). Many people keep them in a 10 gallon aquarium. I left the nutritional information sheet on the quail eggs at the Warehouse. Its awesome, how much goodness can be packed in such a tiny egg. If there is interest, I will bring fresh quail eggs down on my next trip to the Warehouse. I'm still waiting on my sheep to lamb and my heifer to calve. I'm happy they will have good weather for it. I don't like to lamb too early. The goats are a pain in the butt. The mean one, Angie, might be bred. She quite possibly kept the other two from getting bred. As soon as I can afford to buy him, I'll be getting yet another buck in. This one is way too big for Angie to kill. He is a really big Boer buck with a magnificent set of horns. The twin Boer doelings that I bought this winter are doing fine. They are housed separately from the milk does. Plenty of work to be done today so I'd best get at it. Enjoyed meeting folks at the Warehouse. :-)Pat Z.
