I am preparing a statement to our Provincial Government in Canada.

I require to know the average cost of treatment with Starband, DOC

and DOPCA or any other independant helmet distributor.

The reason I ask is to show the cost of treatment versus the cost of

Prevention.

Details: Is it all inclusive, adjustment visits, number of bands?

That type of deal.....I appreciate the help. If you have reserves

about responding I understand. This information will make us one

step closer to prevention and public awareness.

I feel it would be most beneficial for these applicable offices to

acknowledge plagiocephaly than to deal with its consequences.

Jeff:

To clarify those costs, my Abby wore both the STAR & DOCband, and the

listed prices on the plagio.org webpage is for all adjustments,

appointments, etc., it's all inclusive.

The number of bands each child needs vary from child to child, some

need just one, others need 2 or more, or even 3. So that varies.

Yep, have to pay for additional bands, each band costs the same as the

first, a 2nd DOCband would cost another $3,000.00.

Hi Jeff:

I don't post often, but I thought you might be interested in my

scenario. I live in Ontario. In my local area there was no one who

did bands or helmets - unless I wanted to travel about an hour or so

to Toronto. (This can be a little tricky with twins.) Luckily, I was

fortunate enough to find an Orthotist in my city who was willing to

take on the challenge of fabricating a helmet. My son is his first

patient. So far things are coming along nicely. My son has been in

the helmet for almost a month now and I'm starting to see signs of

improvement. The cost related to the plagiocephaly helmet for the

casting, fabrication and fitting, (along with the bi-weekly

adjustment visits) came to just under $2000.00 CAD. I wrote a

compelling letter to my own work insurance provider in regards to why

my son required the helmet and was able to get my insurance to cover

the costs involved. It has taken a lot of research and perserverance

to get where I am today, but it's all been worth it! I hope this

information helps. One will do anything to get the necessary

treatment for your child. I'm so glad I didn't give up and hope

for " nature " to take it's course and hope that his head would round

out on it's own, and his facial assymetry would correct itself as

well - I just don't believe that would have happened. Good luck with

your plight! Thanks for all of us out there who are dealing with a

very challenging fight here in Canada.

Wow,

How wonderful that you found someone to help your son. I am so excited that

your insurance took care of the costs! You have helped pave the way for

others.

Thank you

Angie
