Hi Cari: I have been down the road that you are now experiencing and had to taper off prednisone many times. When I taper, it is very slowly and there are no side effects except fatigue. Prednisone. is great when one is in distress it really helps. My allergy and asthma has offered me shots of Xolair which had to be approved by your insurance plan since it is so very expensive. It is suppose to be a great drug with high success. I researched it as far as I could and it seems to be great. I am going to go for it as soon as I get back on my feet from recent surgery. My doctor seems to think it is a good thing. Blessings Maureen

Is Xolair administered by a shot? I saw the pulmonologist last week and he took a blood sample to see if I was a candidate for a newer medication that is administered by IV once a month. I have an appointment with him again next week and I guess he will give me the results then. I had assumed it was Xolair, but now I am not sure. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? He has also ordered an echocardiogram which I will have this Thursday. Is that just pretty standard? I do get chest pain on the left side of my chest and shoulder during an attack, but just always assumed that was part of it. Does anyone else experience that? I really hope there is not a problem. I feel like I am dealing with enough chronic things at the moment. Thanks,

I have only heard of Xolair being administered by having shots, not

by IV. But it may be a different way of doing it. You either get

shots every 2 weeks or every 4 weeks depending on your IgE. They do

take a blood test for your IgE level to see if you are qualified for

it. You have to have allergies.-

I had chest pain also during an attack before my asthma got

controlled. My doctor also had me have an echocardiogram, I think it

is maybe standard procedure if you have chest pain just to make sure

nothing is wrong with your heart because that can also cause

shortness of breath. Once they rule that out you'll have one less

thing to worry about.

Try to stay calm(i know that is hard), it sounds like maybe you are

finally getting something done to help you feel better. They have

to do tests to know what to do for you.

Lin,

Sorry for the delay in replying.

I get a 2 Xoliar shots every 2 weeks. They go by Your IgE and

weight to determine hwo much and how often you get a shot. The

first couple of times my doctor had me wait for an hour, but now I

leave right after the shot, and soon I am going to be giving my own

shots at home.

I am completely off prednisone thanks to the Xolair. The stuff is

really a miracle. It does take a while to work for some people.

It took about 4 months for me to get feeling this good. So if your

son doesn't see an improvement right away, don't give up. It is

worth the wait.

Check out Xolair.com, lots of good info there.
