I'd be really grateful for any info on the best way biomedically of supporting the immune system during chemo, also any useful links / books on this subject. Thanks, Joanne

Guest guest
Traditional Chinese Medicine/herbs (if she can find a good practitioner). Also immune boosting mushrooms. One lady I know is currently undergoing chemo for breast cancer and swears by royal jelly - but not any brand or type. The one she gets is in powder form, produced in china (small brown sachets with chinese lettering alongside english) and is lyposomal-bound or something like that. I looked briefly in UK for it but could not find it... she tried few other royal jelly types and says they didn't work nearly as well for her. In any case worth trying. Gen Pharmacol. 1998 Jan;30(1):1-4. A review of research on the protein-bound polysaccharide (polysaccharopeptide, PSP) from the mushroom Coriolus versicolor (Basidiomycetes: Polyporaceae). Ng TB. Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shatin, N.T., Hong Kong. 1. Protein-bound polysaccharides, designated as PSK and PSP, have been isolated from the CM-101 strain and the COV-1 strain, respectively, of the mushroom Coriolus versicolor. This article aims at summarizing existing research findings about PSP since information on PSK is well documented. 2. PSP possesses a molecular weight of approximately 100 kDa. Glutamic and aspartic acids are abundant in its polypeptide component, whereas its polysaccharide component is made up of monosaccharides with alpha-1,4 and beta-1,3 glucosidic linkages. The presence of fucose in PSK and rhamnose and arabinose in PSP distinguishes the two protein-bound polysaccharides, which are otherwise chemically similar. 3. PSP is classified as a biological response modifier. It induces, in experimental animals, increased gamma-interferon production, interleukin-2 production, and T-cell proliferation. It also counteracts the depressive effect of cyclophosphamide on white blood cell count, interleukin-2 production and delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction. Its antiproliferative activity against tumor cell lines and in vivo antitumor activity have been demonstrated. A small peptide with a molecular weight of 16-18 kDa originating from PSP has been produced with antiproliferative and antitumor activities. 4. PSP administered to patients with esophageal cancer, gastric cancer and lung cancer, and who are undergoing radiotherapy or chemotherapy, helps alleviate symptoms and prevents the decline in immune status. > > Subject: OT Immune support for chemotherapy> To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe > Date: Wednesday, 16 November, 2011, 12:19> > > > > > > > > Â > > > > > > > > > > A friend of mine is undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. Guest guest
My mum had chemo last year. We consulted with Rosy s who did mum a programme, however example of programme is on her website. It lists programme for normal immune support then with extras for those going through treatment. Rosy s used to head Bristol cancer unit prior to having her own holistic practice but she is also a medical doctor. Her website is health creation. Her supplements can be ordered through cytoplan (who give 33% discount to TA members)!!!Its a really good website but you have to pick put the bits you need and ignore all the expensive life coach type suggestions for support The core of what my mum uses is:Max immune (this is beta glucan)Fruit power (antioxident support)omega 3life line formula (multi vitamin and mineral) - pygnogenolin addition through speaking to my nutritionist we also added in:sacc boulardii (I swear by this for immune support - use on both my kids)culturelle tri enzaThis has kept my mum good through treatment and kept her immune system good/white cells count up which allowed her to have treatment without delays - if patient has infection often chemo has to be delayed until white count is back up. Best wishesalison RRosy s also has some addition specifically to help with side effects during radiotherapy A friend of mine is undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer.
