Guest guest
Hi SamWith our little boy he was confirmed as having an allergy to dairy as a baby, but we were advised to wean onto a soya milk - I breastfed him until he was 1yr. I wish I had insisted he be tested for soya as he has had significant problems with his bowels which in part I feel were due to the soya. Looking back it was as if he was addicted to it - but this was all before his diagnosis with ASD (he too had been developing normally and lost speech/social skills etc between 16-20 months) and before I knew any better. Many parents after doing GFCF go onto remove soya and corn and find this has good results. We did.Good luck with your little boy.Jayne To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Sent: Thursday, 1 December 2011, 19:29 Subject: Help with diet please!!! Hi I am a newbie and I have a 3 year old ASD son. He was quite a normal developing boy and he was ok even after the MMR, his problems started when he was 2, he lost all his language and eye contact, which makes me think his ASD is diet related. He was lactose intolerant as a baby as a result of having diarrhoea and excema for 8 weeks, we used Lacto free milk for 4 months, then doctors advised me it was temporary and he went back onto normal formula milk. after 3 years on normal milk and suffering from quite bad excema, constipation etc we finally got NHS to do Stool sample (with the help of a DAN Nutritionist we put him on a GFCF diet and showed NHS his excema went) and it came back lactose intolerant. Since taking the milk and gluten out, his excema went and he started to speak more clearly, and memorising lots of lists of things in his head, doing quite complicated puzzles in minutes, singing nursery ryhmes, started concentrating more, its like the fog had been lifted. BUT THEN we gave him soya yogurt (probiotic) for 3 days and he has been drinking normal milk from his younger brothers bottle sneakily, a few times this week. hes just become so hyper and his behaviuor has become even more worse then when we originally started, its worrying me, is this normal?? his language is ok but hes started pronuncing some words, like he did before eg dog is gog and please is ple etc. Its like hes had a slight regression. He has aba therapy and the therapists say he's alot more hyper then usual and screaming alot, something he never did before (but saying that he has mastered most of his programmes now) he jumps alot aswell, especially when hes happy, as he has extremely hypermobile joints, but the NHS refuse to help me and the physio said 'its all part of the autism' and that was that (Arggghhh!!!!) Any suggestions, I am very new to this and any advice would be really appreciated. Sam

Guest guest
Hi Sam,We also had a similar situation. Our son showed a milk allergy after I weaned him at 6 mths. He developed eczema over most of his body and had really foul stools. I was then advised to try a soy formula and that also caused eczema and foul stools. We finally tried rice milk and the eczema went away really quickly. Much later we took out gluten and he had normal stools for the first time. I would definitely trial taking out soy as soon as possible, don't rely on tests to confirm everything. Take it out and watch his behaviour/ physical symptoms and if they change for the better that is all the confirmation you need. Like Jayne said too, corn can be problematic so watch out for that one in the future. All the best, x

Guest guest
Hi Sidrah, I think we met at the Breakspear when I was with my Son and my Husband? Just re-read your post, soya has a similar structure to casein even though it is not dairy related and causes problems for a lot of kids. It did for mine. Just wondered if you thought it might be an idea to take it out. I know its a pain, but there's rice milk, almond milk? Are you doing Enzymes, they helped us a LOT.
