Guest guest
Have you tried connecting the activities to something he really likes? Our son is into trains, as a lot of kids like this are. We used the Tank Engine characters to teach colors, numbers, counting, facial expressions, social skills, etc. The school psychologist also suggested a variation on stickers for a motivator. Scan a picture of something he really wants (toy, logo for trip to Mc's, etc.) and print two copies. First one in black an white on plain paper. Second one in color on self-adhesive labels. Cut the label into pieces. He gets a piece each time he does a task, then puts the pieces over the black and white picture. When it's all color, he gets the item. Haven't done this with our son yet, but bet it would work! HE is doing well with ABA but has some issues with escaping demands. He always wants to run away from any activity. It almost feels like he does it intentionally. HE laughs and giggles and has a naughty look on his face and moves further away from us when we try to work harder. AT home with some time out we are usually able to contain him. HE is not aggressive or will not run away from sight. He makes sure we see him and he likes to be chased around. WE have tried ignoring him but that seems to really hamper his learning. But the activities he enjoys, he seems to focus well. BUt he does a really good job when he does focus. He does it more when the activity is little difficult or other than his routinue.Do you all have any thoughts. WE have not seeen a psychologist or psychiatrist in this regard. someone suggested using meds. But I am a little weary about it. HE very well knows that the behaviour is not appropriate and knows that he will have consequences, but still tries it every time. HOw do we deal with it. thanks for all your help?
