Hi :

I am very pleased that you are having success and that you did not have to over pay for your DOC Band. My most recent patient was told it would cost them $5300. This was very disturbing to me. It is also disturbing that there are some orthotists applying the cranial remodeling bands that are not qualified, as you mentioned. There are different classifications of 'Orthotists' and granted, even with the credentials not every professional is adroit in the skill it takes to mold, apply and do accurate follow-ups. The DOC Band people do a terrific job. I was just concerned about the amount one DOC Band company was charging.

I have been applying cranial bands for over 2 years with great success. I have over 35 years in pediatric biomechanics with 15 in the cervical/cranial area. I studied at Northwestern along with attending numerous cranial seminars. We have a team effort in our area where both pediatric therapists and neurologists assist in the follow-ups of my plagio patients. Take care.

Hi :

Please understand that I feel the DOC band is wonderful. I have not heard one bad thing about the company. I was only questioning about what I was told last week by a parent. It appears by your answer that the parent may have misinterpreted the info they received.

Are all DOC Band companies required to abide by corporate rules and have set limits on the amounts they charge?

I would greatly appreciate it if you do not group me with other orthotists that have given maladroit cranial remodeling to children and families over the years.

Kind regards,

Dan

Thanks for your reply . In fact I plan to contact CT tomorrow to hopefully enroll in their program. I do feel that their program is the best around even though I have been using Orthomerica for 2 years. I do not want to be grouped anymore with orthotists that have not done their homework and are providing ill fitting devices.

When I heard about the cost I almost had a change of heart. I want to make sure that I would not be held to corporate price guide lines. I am in a position that if a family cannot afford the entire cost of a cranial band, I usually absorb the remaining cost. I would treat kids for free if I could.

What can you tell me about enrollment in CT?

Kind regards,

Dan

Where in Ohio are you? We are in Cleveland and Dane's band cost

$2900. I feel that was a real bargain. I was so glad to go to a

kid friendly place with tons of experience dealing solely with

heads.

The bands may do the same thing, but CT folks are very educated

where SOME STARband orthos aren't. We have had several STAR

dropouts this week alone from inexperienced orthos. We have heard

reports of bands being big enough to fit a small adult. You would

never hear of CT sending a band like that out to the clinic because

they inspect them carefully. If you find a reputable STARband ortho

you can get a real bargain, but that is not always the case.

The DOC Band rebellion is referring to Kari's daughter continually

taking off her band by pulling on one end and pushing off the other.

Can you tell us what kind of experience you have with the bands (ie

how many you have done and what kind of training/supervision you had

while you were learning)?

Dan,

I do apologize if I came across as rude. It really infuriates me when

misinformation is posted here. I feel it is a great disservice to our

new members. You said in your post that " Many of my patients parents

have been disgusted over the DOC Band cost and the lack of compassion

when it comes to insurance out of pocket expenses. " How many of these

parents have actually had any dealings with CT? Or is it just ONE

parent that you heard this from? You've said many parents and then

you said one parent. Which is it? One would think since your a

pediatriac orhotist you would of gotten your facts straight before

you posted. We have a lot of new members joining everyday. It is SO

IMPORTANT that what they read here is ACCURATE! They look to us for

support, understanding and accurate information.

The impression that I got from your post was that you saw what you

thought was a negative comment about the DOCband and you jumped on

it. That didn't sit well with me, I for one will be forever greatful

to CT and the ortho that treats my daughter.

To answer your question: Taken from the Cranial Tech web site

" The DOC Band is provided by two different methods: (a) Cranial

Technologies Centers, and (B) Licensed Centers. Since Licensed

Centers are not owned by Cranial Technologies, you may find different

business policies, including price of the band, etc. However,

treatment protocols are the same in all DOC Band Centers "

" Every DOC Band is fabricated, following quality guidelines, at our

headquarters in Arizona. Every clinician has trained with us and

passed written and practical exams for treating plagiocephaly with

the DOC Band. Additionally, each Center is audited annually to

evaluate the level of treatment being provided. Yearly continuing

education is required for clinicians in both licensed and CTI owned

centers. "

I don't really understand how you can be saying 1 thing about a company and the next minute and changing your mind the next. I truly think you just want to help the babies and families but you seem to be changing your views minute to minute.

I do think it is great you are helping families who can't afford the entire cost of the band!

,

Our DOC band was a total of $3,000 which included everything, cast to fittings. My insurance company paid 100% of the cost!!! They are out there (paying ins. companies) unfortunately, some parents are having a hard time with their getting their insurance companies to pay.

hello and welcome

Are you in the UK? Would love to get feedback on the CT there. I

heard Charlotte there is a great clinician.

At your son's age he will probably be in the band for that long.

Growth slows down after about 1 year, but I " m thrilled to hear that

you are going for it. Please keep us posted on how casting goes

tomorrow. Take something with you that he likes to get his

attention off the casting.

My older daughter, who is now 5, got her DOC band at 19 months and they had originally told me she would probably be in her band for 4-5 months or so. She had a major growth spurt during her time in the band and graduated after three months in it. I think with older babies they say that long of a period because their growth has slowed down some. You may find that your son will hit a growth spurt during his time in the band and the time they have told you will be cut down.

While there haven't been long term studies conducted there are

members here whose children were treated five years or more ago and

there are no reports of developmental delays from treatment with

DOCbands, STARbands or other orthotic helmets.

No. It actually been researched that the DOC band allows normal brain development.

Cranial Growth Unrestricted During Treatment of Deformational PlagiocephalyThis study demonstrates that infants follow the normal growth curves with respect to head circumference, length and width during the course of treatment.. http://www.cranialtech.com/ParentsArea/publications/cti1174.pdf
