An interesting corollary to this is that researchers are starting to see sudden onset of cardiac event in long-term salvage patients who start a virologically effective regimen and have sudden drop in viral load. They speculate whether it's part if immune reconstitution syndrome, where the body is suddenly able to respond to latent infections with lots of inflammation--which can trigger cardiac events. One more thing for salvage pts to worry about--and for their doctors to monitor closely.
