Guest guest
Dear Saranya, First of all don't be scared,i just told you, what my folks told me when i was new in the country )Even though crime rate is lil bit higher in the downtown area but my own experience is very different.......'coz way back in 1999, i used to go to 16th- Walnut,everyday........and during my lunch break i used to scan all the streets of downtown all by myself, despite all those warnings from my hubby and other relatives.......And i didn't come across even a single untoward incident whatsoever....i think they were being overly protective (or i was very daring?).....so, be adventurous and enjoy your freedom..........here are few safety rules, though, i used to follow--- 1.Don't go out in the odd/wee hours....esp the places which r open 24/7 2.Try not to wear expensive watch/chain/ring ......if you are, make sure its not obviously visible...!! 3.Don't try to open your wallet/cash infront of a homeless bandhu asking you for a quarter/dime.....pretend as if you didn't understand...or just don't pay any attention and march on. 4.Avoid anyone stopping you for directions.....or if someone insists......just say " No English " ....) Sounds funny but very useful tip......even the craziest of the crazy can go nuts when they figure out you are just an alien ,who has probably forgotten his way home....) 5.Remember the emergency numbers--- 911 and mine ofcourse!....) So, enjoy the time and the freedom without any worries, you might regret that later on! Now coming to the real point,Saturday afternoon we have a local committment.......and we'll be free after 4.00 pm.You are most welcome to visit us Saturday evening, stay overnight, spend a day with us and the next day we'll drop you off at the Airport before your scheduled flight, howzzzz that?? I think in UK you've left hand drive ......so, if you are not very comfortable driving especially being new in the area,we can pick you up...!!Rest over the phone.....or you can even email me directly to avoid the mail delay. Take care...... Neeti'86 PS:Chetan, what are your plans??I think try to find sometime out of your busy schedule and join us Saturday evening/Sunday morning. > > > Dear All, > > > Are there any MGIMS alumni in Philadelhia.
