Guest guest
Hello. My name is Nikki. I am looking for some answers to a few questions I have. My son who is 8 years old has suffered from a chronic cough since age 3. He , every couple of months would get a cough that would last about 2 weeks. Sounds like a hacking cough. Doctors never really heard any wheezing so they never diagnosed him with anything. Well, a few days ago, i took him into the doc cause he has had a cough for about 5 weeks that never went away. The doc tried him on an antibiotic, didn't work. Went back two weeks later..put him on another antibiotic, that sent us into the ER because of a bad reaction to it.. The doc in the ER suggested asthma. Cough variant form. Doc put him on a steroid for 5 days(its been 3) and zithromax. Also started him on albuterol. He has been on the albuterol for 3 days now ,...4 times a day. He had a cough fit last night. I got up, gave him his inhaler and that didn't help. I put vicks on his chest..and within 10 min it stopped. How do I know this is asthma? Will the cough ever go away completely? I thought if he has asthma, and is taking meds for it, shouldn't the cough go away. I want to make sure they give him the correct diagnosis. Can someone help?
