Vivactins are more like candy than pills. Also Tums makes a sugar free

chewable that is good. It is for heartburn, but I take them for my calcium.

I ate pistachios yesterday for the first time. They were yummy, Gosh I

didn't know they were 2/3 fat calories....I guess that is why they are goood

for us.

I also loke the centrum chewable vitamins. They are orange flavored

and not funky tasting like kiddie vitamins. .....Just a few suggestions....

Strangest thing since surgery.... Pills of all types and sizes make

me gag. They just won't go down. The only thing I can get down is

the tiny Walgreens " one-a-day " .

I've always had trouble with liquid meds. (childhood trauma?)

Nearing week 4, I know I need to get going on my calcium.

I'm looking for tiny calcium capsules (or pills). I can take several

small pills (but when I use a pill cutter to break up big pills the

jagged edges get " stuck " ).

After going through all the surgery stuff, this seems like such a

small problem, but it is driving me nuts!

(Speaking of Nuts are they okay to eat at 3 and 1/2 weeks--- Food is

starting to sound good :-)!)

Thanks!!

Hi Jim! Anything that sounds good to you food-wise, you should try

in small amounts. I was eating nuts pretty early after surgery and

they didn't bother me. And they're a great source of protein!

Have you tried calcium chews? I can't remember the brand name but

there are several of them out there. If you can stand the sweetness,

they would be a good alternative to pills.

Hi Jim! I've tried 4 different brands of soft calcium chews,

in just about every flavour. The best (and most expensive,

8.99 for 75) was the GNC caramel. I have bought Viactiv

(chocolate, caramel, mochaccino and orange cream, 7.99 for

60), poured them into a jar and have a " grab-bag " -- a

surprise flavour each time (I tend to get bored of the same

one over and over). I've bought the WalMart (Spring Valley)

brand and added them to the jar... they taste no better nor

worse than the Viactiv and are a little cheaper at 5.99 for

60. I just found some fruit flavored chews at Trader Joes,

and I quite like them... more than the Viactiv orange cream,

especially!) They cost 6.99 for 75. The TJ's and GNC chews

are also available in chocolate, though I've not bought them.

As far as the nuts go... I started eating peanuts at about 3

weeks... I seemed to crave salty things, and was also eating

a lot of beef jerky. Some nuts do seem to have more protein

per serving, but since I was taking 2222 to supplement at that

time, I didn't worry about the protein too much then. Now I

seem to go through 'waves' of wanting nuts... crave them for a

week or so, then not want to even see them... rinse and repeat.

Kinda weird. But I just go with the flow. :)

One thing I've decided is, if I have a craving, I'm going to

satisfy it. I think that part of my weight problem (and

trouble with diets) was that I was on a perpetual diet for

1/2 my life, and I would always deny myself and deny myself,

so that when I finally gave in, I'd over-indulge. No more of

that! :) Things seem to be going well for me, so I think I'm

doing ok. :)

Huggles,

post-op Dr. Keshishian

06/04/02 424.5 lbs 68.4 bmi

02/11/03 267.0 lbs 43.1 bmi

(8 months and -157.5 lbs!!!)

P.S. Today is actually my 9 month anniversary. But I will wait

until next tuesday for my 'official' weigh-in and update my

sig then... :)

It sounds like you have a lot of experience, , with calcium chews! I

was SO good at getting my calcium in when I could just pop a chew in my

mouth 3-4 times a day. Now that I have to take it like medicine, I am

falling down on the job.

I had to quit taking the ones I was taking because they were calcium

carbonate. Unfortunately, I discovered I have bad effects from the

carbonate.

Have you discovered any chews which are made with a calcium OTHER than

carbonate?

Thanks... Elle *^_^*

P.S. congrats on your 9 mo anniversary... and on your incredible stats!

Wow!

Thanks, Betsy. Actually, I received 3 job offers, but the best one was

working for a hospice provider for $50k in Hobbs, NM. It is by far the most

amount of money that I will have made. Now... they seem to have trouble

keeping social workers, so I don't know if it is because of the job or the

town. SOOOO, I have also talked to the other two people who offered me

jobs... and they say if this one doesn't work out to call them up

immediately!

200 calcium citrate; 400mg tricalcium phosphate. I just posted the address

in a reply to Kym- let me know if it doesn't come through. Did I miss the

job in Hobbs that you are taking? It must be a relief to be employed again.
