Guest guest
I echo 's comments about hair loss. After my mother died suddenly last year, I noticed lots and lots of hair in the shower drain about 3-4 months later. This continued (to my horror) for about 3 months then seemed to slowly stop. My daughter has been having thinning of her hair, but frankly, until you brought it up, I had not thought to connect it with the SSRI's. Hmmmmm Gail in N'awlins
Guest guest
Thanks for your reply, however, I'm not so much worried about the cost of finasteride, but rather the side effects. DHT is a very important hormone for sexual function, as well as neural efficiency, being about 5 times as androgenic as testosterone at the androgen receptors. DHT also acts as the body's natural aromatase inhibitor, preventing excessive conversion of testosterone to estrogen. When DHT levels are reduced systemically, estrogen levels increase and libido decreases. I would like to find something that preferentially blocks DHT at the scalp, without affecting DHT elsewhere in the body. The only things I have come across so far are topical spironolactone and fluridil (both of which get absorbed through the scalp and into the systemic circulation, causing a lot of side effects) and azelaic acid, which has only been shown to reduce DHT in vitro and causes initial shedding in a lot of people. Mooney, if you are reading this, do you have any suggestions?
