Guest guest
My son has been on Anafranil for a couple of years now. He always gets an EKG and Anafranil blood level done 2xs a year. Anafranil has a lot more side effects than the newer OCD meds. Anafranil was our last resort since the SSRIs weren't working for him. Anafranil has been a godsend for us (and him). Please make sure your doc is having you do blood levels to ensure that it isn't too high. I'm sorry I don't know the specific implications of it getting too high -- just not a good thing. We had to stop upping our dose because my son's level was at the upper end of " normal " . Therefore, he does take a SSRI in conjunction with Anafranil. Tamra Anafranil and ekg I read tonight on the aacap [american academy of childhood and adolescent psychiatry?] that the prescription of anafranil must be accompanied by 'periodic' ekg because of a [remote?] possiblity of irregular heart. could this be why it has dropped down the list of choices - apparently none of the other top meds require this -I can see where doctors and insurance companies would balk. I'm still partial to anafranil because of its comparatively long history with childhood ocd.
