Dear

Are the same centers= Bilateral vomiting centers in the reticular formation of the medulla . This is a response due to the toxicity that in general have the

Chemotherapy agents. This chemicals are so aggressive that are even caustic to the veins, where you

introduce the needles to send this drop by drop.

If you cant control this adverse effects, I have deal with them with great success. Doing something usually

Md's don't like to do ( I don't know why have this lack of sensitivity for others suffering)I used to give 1, 2, 3 up to 5 vials of anti vomiting Meds (metoclopramida) Reglan in USA. First we learn the

effective dose to BLOCK BEFORE, any experience of vomit or nausea effect.

So this patients that before where suffering this bad times. Undergone the Chemo treatment without noticing

any effect. But you will have to fight and stand for the patient comfort with many people, Dr's and some family members as well. Of course is very easy to oppose when you are in the " other side of the street " . Come ans sit with the one that is with this nausea and then tell me if you don't want to rise the dose.... ( and BTW, Clinical , comes from the root clinee, that means to " bend yourself over the bed to take care of someone in pain... "

Best

,

Do you know if the same centers of the brain are involved in nausea secondary to chemotherapy, or is there perhaps another mechanism involved?

Also, are you aware of any research on neurofeedback and training of those areas?

Thanks

Re: Nausea and vomitting

Dear Mark,

Bilateral vomition centers in the reticular formation of the medulla integrate signals from a large number of outlying sources and their excitement is ultimately what triggers vomition. Electric stimulation of these centers induces vomiting, while destruction of the vomition centers renders animals very resistant to emetic drugs.

Blessings
