Guest guest
I'm sorry to hear about your struggles and I don't blame you for being depressed. I would be too if I were in your shoes. I think coming to a support group is awesome because you can talk to others who are going through what you're going through and maybe someone can help you. I'll see what I can do as well. I take a Flovent/Servent combo which has kept me in the mild/moderate persistent stage, but not so persistent lately. I took the Flovent twice a day every day for the longest time. Then I did some reading and found out I could actually get by on less once it was controlled so I experimented and have been cutting down my use of corticosteroids, but not too much. When my asthma is in the moderate stage, I use it more and less in the mild and it has worked pretty well for me not to mention saved me some money and I'm hoping will spare me or lessen the long-term side effects of using a corticosteroid. I would definitely let your doctor know that the regimen he's giving you is not working and ask him to experiment with another combo. Some of these doctors are guided by pharmaceuticals and not concrete evidence so you have to watch out for that. I basically listen to how my body responds and other people to keep the docs in check. Good luck! Angie > I just wanted to say hi. My name is elisa I am a 26 year old > female. I have had asthma most of my life and just the past 2 years > it has seemed to get very bad. Guest guest
HI Doyle, Sorry you are having such a bad time with your asthma, it is a very frustrating condition. Sounds like you have what is called late onset asthma which develops in middle age, the burning question is why? I'm guessing from your sign in name that maybe you live in Vegas? I come from London and adore Las Vegas but the dust in the air is really bad for my asthma. Where are you being treated and what drugs are you being given? When asthma persists for a long time the lungs become constantly inflamed and you then need oral steroids to reduce that inflammation. That's Prednisolone, a nasty drug with side effects but very good at helping your breathing. Do you have a nebuliser, an essential part of any asthmatics equipment? Well done giving up smoking, maybe this bad patch is the after effect from that, takes a while for the lungs to recover from the nicotine? Send me a little history of yourself and I will give you what help I can. I am a Brittle asthmatic(uncontrolled asthma) and live in London UK, look forward to chatting to you June > > > Hi. Guest guest
Kim- Actually, I got Viral Bronchial Asthma before being diagnosed with Asthma and Allergy Rhinitis (sp?). I always got miserable because I would have to make sure that I had my inhaler with me in the winter because I would always have problems breathing. --- yogibear2b wrote: <Hi everyone, Any asthmatics out there get bronchitis frequently? Guest guest
It sounds like you have Chronic Bronchitis which falls under the COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) category. Asthma, Emphysema and other respiratory diseases are included in this grouping. Do a search on COPD to learn more. Guest guest
I've been averaging bronchitis about every 2-3 months. Sometimes a little longer if I'm lucky and I get a jump on things before they get out of hand.

Guest guest
It jsut hits. It doesn't usually give me any warning and I almost always have to take antibiotics. I would talk to the dr about the ways to fight the infection. Sometimes the meds are the only way if the infections are really bad. Hope you feel better soon. . Guest guest
For me I kind of know when I'm heading down the road to bronchitis, so I'll up using me nebulizer and sometimes that will help me. But then others the only thing that gets me back on track is zithromax and prednisone.

Guest guest
I know that. I was worried with the last course I was on due to the side effects and they treated me like I was crazy. I'm already at an increase risk for diabetes due to family history and having had gestational diabetes.

Guest guest
Right now I'm seriously considering changing doctors for the simple fact a few weeks ago, I felt like I was coming down with a cold, which with me always leads to bronchitis, so I called, because the last time I was in, the doctor said we could of just called it in, because they always give me the same thing.. Well, I called and left a message for her to call me in my "usual" to my pharmacy. She didn't even have the respect to call me and tell me that she wasn't going to call anything in, I had to find that out myself after calling the pharmacy the next day to see if anything had been called in. Plus she got "snippy" when I took family medical leave papers in for her to fill out for my husband, (so he's able to take off and care for the kids when I'm really down and out, and since having my severe asthma attack that almost took my life in October, things haven't been all that great, and I can't be trusted to stay home alone at night with 2 kids when my asthma is flaring up.) She told me his doctor should fill them out, I was like "huh" what does "his" doctor know about "My asthma" so with a little hesitation she filled them out, but since then it seems like she is ignoring me when I do call. So time for a change, I think...
