How did you come to have him on the supps you list?

His diet isn't giving him much nutrition but I know from my own son that doesn;t mean he doesn't grow and look healthy.

I'm sure you have a NAA chapter in New York and probably a TACA one also so there are groups to go to

www.nationalautismassociation.com

www.tacanow.org

I'd be inclined to give him an Oxypowder clear-out www.oxypowder.com and try some Houston digestive enzymes www.houston-enzymes.com look at TriEnza and No Fenol.

Does he sleep well?

Does he have any rashes or red ears/cheeks?

I am the mother of , he is 15 years old and I am starting over with my attempt to help him!! again. has autism and non-verbal, well slightly verbal he can request wants, like juice, help, pasta, bathroom. But no conversation , he can follow directions go get.... but.. there is just so much more in there trying to get out. He definitely knows so much more but I dont know how to help him..... I have him on many suppliments.. are they helping.. I'm not sure, he is glueten free.....basically eats wheat/glfree pasta 24/7 w/Ragu sauceon it... I'm up for anything... please could someone help me ?? what suppliments should he be on.. what treatments are current.. I am feeling lost.. i just erased 5000... emails --- so i need some guidance -- I live in Central New York, USA. I am willing to try anything that could help him.. Aggression and hitting is increasing and I just cant figure out why or how to help.. anyone please !!!!??? I would be so thankful... I'm not sure if you folks are ahead of USA or behind in treatments as I need a point to start at and do not know where to start...... Kara

Mag citrate 200 mg

5-HTP 100 mg

Taurine 500 mg

GABA 750 mg

Super EPA(360 EPA AND 240 DHA)

I wouldn't use that one Kirsty. I stay away from aspartate forms, also oxide isn't really an absorbable form of mag. I do however use NOW brand mag powder, as that is in the citrate form, which ds tolerates well and is absorbable. Also easier in that you don't have to open caps. Iherb carries it.Anita>> What Magnesium is it that you cannot use? you have probably had many helpful responses but your post caught my eye because i posted something along those lines a few years back. my daughter like your son uses single words and understands instructions etc yes there is a lot more but not sure what to do. glad diet and supplements are working for you i have tried and failed in that department. all my daughter is on now is native remedies Pure Calm after a period of detox from all the medicines/supplements and diets and yes behaviour at that time was impossible but now she is ok , i can take her anywhere and she is fine at school. i think puberty and all the supplements might make things worse not better. if possible try and wean him off some and see if they make a difference then slowly reintroduce. good luck

I'd be inclined to give him an Oxypowder clear-out www.oxypowder.com and try some Houston digestive enzymes www.houston-enzymes.com look at TriEnza and No Fenol.

Does he sleep well?

Does he have any rashes or red ears/cheeks?

I wouldn't use that one Kirsty. I stay away from aspartate forms, also oxide isn't really an absorbable form of mag. I do however use NOW brand mag powder, as that is in the citrate form, which ds tolerates well and is absorbable. Also easier in that you don't have to open caps. Iherb carries it.Anita>> What Magnesium is it that you cannot use? Hi I have been to many homeopaths who have introduced me to a bizzillion different suppliments. I feel like I am drugging him all the time -- this to calm him this to make his food digest... this to make him not in a fog.. How on earth do I know if i am helping or fogging him up???? and he ears glasses.... let me tell you what a nightmare... I never know if the prescription is correct since he can not tell the doctor, so they dialate andwell.. ??? who knows he is constantly handing me his glasses.. saying fix.. ???? I do make homemade sauce usually everyother week, he loves stewed tomatoes and green beans, sweet pot and squash too. When we have chicken, streak or venison he always eats some -- pulled bbq pork he loves... but his primary food is Tinkyada pasta, which is brown rice pasta, with

rice bran. For breakfast he eats high fiber oatmeal with almond milk -- so I worry about the instant oatmeal contents... but he has to eat something before school.... I also read alot online about autism and what seems to be helping some and wondering if i should be doing it with him. I feel like I am NOT doing enough for him!!!!!! (and my husband is always on me about it, either doing too much or not enough!!) I will look into your suggestions and welcome anything else you can think of!!! thanks Kara To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe

How did you come to have him on the supps you list?

His diet isn't giving him much nutrition but I know from my own son that doesn;t mean he doesn't grow and look healthy.

I'm sure you have a NAA chapter in New York and probably a TACA one also so there are groups to go to

Hi Kara, thought I really must reply to your thread.

I have a 14yr old severely autistic son and know how utterly desperate it can be.

My son has made great health gains from biomed but very few cognitive gains, but being healthier does help his performance when he has a mind to attend to things.

I would say you can only tell if anything biomedically is making a difference by clearing the boards, back to basics, food and supplement diary with one thing trialled for at least 4 weeks before adding something else.

Just aim for getting your son to the best he can achieve, not all children are going to "recover" and what works for someone else may not only not work for you but he may even be intolerant of someone else's miracle regime.

A 4yr old non verbal pre-schooler is not necessarily anything like your son, this has always been obvious to me as my older son was non verbal until around 5yrs old, he spoke without any interventions, my point is don't be feeling you are doing something wrong because other mums have apparently recovered their child, early interventions is obviously the best way forward but we have been doing biomed with my youngest since nursery, everything including GF/CF as though it were a religion and he is nowhere near recovered cognitively, I refuse to beat myself up thinking I did something wrong, too much, not enough.

Lastly your husband is NOT supportive if he looks to you as the reason your son is not making gains, again I have a husband like that, every time my son rages the accusation is that I am feeding him the wrong food or not on top of his supplements when the truth is a non verbal severely autistic teenager rages by way of communication! If I could change one thing in my life beyond owning a magic wand it would be that my husband was given his marching orders while the children were still small, not suggesting things are that bad for you but if you can let him know he is making your job a lot more stressful then do so.

Dear Kara,

I don't know if you've had enough with trying to improve the diet but if you're

still up for that, I know s in the U.S. is a really great

consultant. She offers tons of online support as well as books and other

resources. She knows about every diet imaginable for autism and has experience

in how to tweak them for individual needs. Just google her and see what you

think.

Finally, have you tried anything like Floortime or RDI? I really like Floortime

because it addresses the individual sensory issues whilst building the social,

emotional, language and cognitive development. We found it very helpful when we

lived in Seattle. In fact, I think there are some schools on the east coast that

incorporate Floortime principles.

Best of luck,

Holly Borba

I second the earlier advice to take him off all supplements that you don't feel are benefitting him in any obvious way, as they could be doing more harm then good. Do you have a DAN! Doc or someone to help you? If not there are supposedly quite a few decent one in your part of US.
