a quick note about Extended Schoolyear Services

With the second half of the school year upon us, I wanted to bring up a very important point that a colleague reminded me of today. Most of us know that ESY in Georgia is historically a struggle to obtain. Or should I say a QUALITY ESY Program is hard to obtain and one that actually fits the needs of the child. So, I just wanted to remind everyone that ESY is mandatory if FAPE is at issue. Once that is understood, the argument for ESY shifts from "a program" to the IEP itself. It is approaching the time of year that we should all be thinking about whether we want to pursue ESY for our child this summer. Remember you can find an appropriate program and take it to the school as a suggestion also,
