Guest guest
Oh Gav! I'm so sorry to hear about all this @# & %! But very happy that you are still with us God must want you around for something important. I think you should at least talk to an attorney while everything is still fresh in your mind, the nurse is still in the state, and all the records haven't been misplaced. If some of the damage is permanent, you may need to use a lawyer. At the very least, that nurse, or the facility is liable to pay for all treatments and medications brought upon you. I'm not a big believer in law suits, but you should do what you think is best, and a good attorney, not a greedy one, will explain what your rights and options are. Again, the most important thing is that you are still on the right side of the sod. You should get a t-shirt that says, "Nurses are a real pain in the butt!" Eat well, sleep well, stay away from needles!Z King wrote: Well, we found out the so-called "struck nerve" frommy iron shot was not the problem. I was stuck witheither a dirty needle from the nurse leaving it on thecounter or it was from the nurse NOT wearing hersteril gloves when I got the injection. This little escapade landed me in the hospital for oneweek with a massive staph infesction in my buttocksand back. I ended up having 2 surgical procedures todrain out over 170 ccs of pus and liquid from theinfected area.At this time I was on hiatus from the HepC TX becausemy hemoglobin was so low. Luckily I gave myself aProcrit shot before I went to the hospital. The infection had encapsulated itself. If my immunesystem was too low and could not encapsulate, I maynot be here today. This has been an absolutenightmare.Since I had the infection, I could not go back on theTX. It has been 2 weeks without it and I'm scared todeath. I've been negative for 12 weeks and I'm afraidthe virus will explode and re-establish itself. Istarted back on Ribavirin yesterday and got 2 dosesin.I'm so mad over this I could spit nails. This nursemay have jeapardized my TX and recovery. From thisincident, I now have back pain and numbness in myright leg. This may be permanent damage too.Gav__________________________________________________

Guest guest
Gav, Im not one who is sue happy either BUT you need to hold them accountible for this at the very least! I am wondering if this nurse even cleaned off the area that she injected prior to giving you the shot... WE ALL have staph on our skin and she might have drug it through the skin if she didnt clean it well enough... but honey,, NO ONE wears STERILE gloves to give an injection... only clean gloves. Sterile Gloves are only used for surgical procedures or to clean a wound. I would bet that the nurse did NOT clean the site well enough before giving you the shot, I highly doubt that she used a dirty needle or used needle. She might have set it on the counter with the needle guard off and perhaps have picked up some germ from the counter IF the needle touched the counter. HOWEVER,,, I am going through getting an attorney for the abuse my mom suffered at the hands of a nurse at a psych hosp myself and I totally agree with that you need to seek Legal counsel! UNLESS you signed a waiver that stated that by receiving this shot you understand that the risks include a) hitting a nerve,AND infection needing surgical intervention, you DO have some case against this nurse AND the clinic or hospital that she/he worked at as well.. Please find a medical malpractice attorney and talk with them. They will only usually take the case IF they feel they can win and will take a portion (usually 15-25%) of whatever you are awarded. Yes, this person has compromised your chance to kick dragon butt for good... The first shot at treatment is usually the BEST one altho I DO know several others who treated a 2 or 3rd time and did in fact clear,, so all is NOT Lost... Please ask your doc to test your viral load to make sure that you havent relapsed... AND NO MORE IRON SHOTS! IF they check your FERRITIN level and its low,, you can take it by mouth and not risk this happening again... wow! what a bummer hon... IM very worried about whether or not you really needed the IRON to begin with,, and only a FERRITIN level can tell that! Let us know,, you will be in our prayers hon jaxZ King wrote: Well, we found out the so-called "struck nerve" frommy iron shot was not the problem. Guest guest
Coincidence!!! I'm already ahead of you. I WORK for one of the biggest personal injury law firms in my area as a legal assistant. The big boss is out of the office today, but when he is back, I will provide all of my notes and see what they say. You are correct that I used the wrong terms of " sterile " and " dirty needle. " I felt that any nurse should wear latex gloves when drawing blood or giving any injection. And for the dirty needle--she might have touched the counter top in the office by accident. I was first shocked to see her washing her hands after the injection. My first thought was--Hey-I'm a hepC patient and she took a risk to herself by not wearing gloves. Little did I know at the time--she was the one that was a risk to me. Gav > > Gav, > Im not one who is sue happy either BUT you need to hold them accountible for this at the very least! I WORK for one of the biggest personal injury law firms in my area as a legal assistant. The big boss is out of the office today, but when he is back, I will provide all of my notes and see what they say.You are correct that I used the wrong terms of "sterile" and "dirty needle." I felt that any nurse should wear latex gloves when drawing blood or giving any injection. And for the dirty needle--she might have touched the counter top in the office by accident.I was first shocked to see her washing her hands after the injection. My first thought was--Hey-I'm a hepC patient and she took a risk to herself by not wearing gloves. Little did I know at the time--she was the one that was a risk to me.Gav>> Gav,> Im not one who is sue happy either BUT you need to hold them accountible for this at the very least! She might have set it on the counter with the needle guard off and perhaps have picked up some germ from the counter IF the needle touched the counter.> HOWEVER,,, I am going through getting an attorney for the abuse my mom suffered at the hands of a nurse at a psych hosp myself and I totally agree with that you need to seek Legal counsel! UNLESS you signed a waiver that stated that by receiving this shot you understand that the risks include a) hitting a nerve,AND infection needing surgical intervention, you DO have some case against this nurse AND the clinic or hospital that she/he worked at as well..> Please find a medical malpractice attorney and talk with them. They will only usually take the case IF they feel they can win and will take a portion (usually 15-25%) of whatever you are awarded.> Yes, this person has compromised your chance to kick dragon butt for good... The first shot at treatment is usually the BEST one altho I DO know several others who treated a 2 or 3rd time and did in fact clear,, so all is NOT Lost... Please ask your doc to test your viral load to make sure that you havent relapsed... AND NO MORE IRON SHOTS!> IF they check your FERRITIN level and its low,, you can take it by mouth and not risk this happening again... wow! what a bummer hon... IM very worried about whether or not you really needed the IRON to begin with,, and only a FERRITIN level can tell that!> Let us know,, you will be in our prayers hon> jaxIt's a pleasure having you join in our conversations. Guest guest
I do feel better, but I still have pain where they put the tubes and needles in to drain the infection. It's a different kind of pain than it was last week from the infection. It will probably take a week or two to heal up completely. I just heard from the hepatologist 2 minutes ago. They want me to take 1/2 a dose in the interferon this Friday, then back to regular dosage next week, follow up with blood work tomorrow, and keep taking the Procrit. I'll know next week when he gets the blood results if I started a relapse or not. If I do--I'm out for bear. Gav > > Yeah, I'd say you're way ahead of the game. Good!
