Hi ,Our daughter received her 1st cast at 80* and 25 months. She will be 4 in April and is in her 6th cast and is measuring 29*, (we took a 3 month brace break over the summer). We go to Shriners SLC, the plan is to continue casting with a summer brace break until we don't see any correction. Her "brace break" held the curve, but we didn't see any improvement. This last cast Keira had another growth spurt and we saw the best correction curve since the 1st cast, so in no way do we think our child was too old for casting. Our daughter's curve was stuck at 40* from cast #3 until this cast, but we did see significant improvement in her rotation with each cast.If your doctor doesn't want to continue casting, I would seek a 2nd opinion. You can also send your childs medical info/xrays to another facility that is Mehta trained doctor

for an opinion regarding further casting. I just wouldn't give up on casting just yet, the SLC doctor believes in casting older kids until it isn't helping, he doesn't give you an age cut-off.Please let me know if you have questions,Liz, Mom to Keira - 3.5 yrs in 6th cast in SLCSubject: Re: Question regarding casting after your childturns 3 years old please help. To: infantile_scoliosis Date: Wednesday, December 30, 2009, 4:43 PM

,My daughter just got her first cast 2 weeks ago and she is 3 yrs and 7 months old. We go to Shriners Greenville Sc and our Dr is Mehta trained. Allie started at 57* and in cast is down to 23*. I strongly believe in casting even after the rapid growth stage. In fact when we were at Shriners our roommate was a 7yr old getting a cast. She had been bracing and casting and had gotten great results with casting even at her age. Every case is different and every child responses differently to casting/bracing so if you feel strongly you want to continue casting I would get a second opinion. Where do you live and where are you currently being treated? Is your Dr Mehta trained? Hang in there you'll get through this and we are here for you. turns 3 years old please help.

Hello,

Its been awhile but Im back to ask a question, share my experiences with my so Jonas' castings thus far. He is currently in his 4th cast and is down to 22 degrees in cast (27 degrees prior to 4th cast procedure). My question is my doctor stated that basically they dont continue with castings after 3 1/2 years of age due to slow down of growth and depending on the situation 6 months from now, wed most likely be looking at bracing to hold what correction we got so far (hes down from 44 degrees before his 1st cast). My question is, has anyone here gone past 3 1/2 years of age with castings and if so how were your results. Basically im trying to avoid any surgeries involving cutting my so open. If unfortunate i found out about the casting procedure so late (my son didnt get his 1st cast till he was 2). Im personally fine with gradual corrections and personally think casting him past 3 1/2 is way id want to go if he still needs correction. Then again im not

an expert. Appreciate any

feedback in advance. Happy holidays/New Year.
