Guest guest
Congratulations Ashwini and S.P.Sir. Well done. Raju Shah 1978 icing on the cake Dear All, Kishore has already let the secret out -Ashwini, my son, got into the MGIMS yesterday. Or was it a day before? - I am still struggling with differences in the time zones. Getting a child into a professional college, and a right one, is indeed a taxing and trying task for parents. Ashwini had joined Ferguson College, Pune a month back because his admission to the MGIMS was not certain. I was feeling extremely guilty that even though Ashwini was struggling to find his way into a medical school, I was leaving the country. The day I left India, some bright light did appear at the end of the tuneel. It took another week to see bright sunshine. Strange, and silly, as it may sound I was not able to call my home - did n't know that I have to dial 9 from my homephone before I start tapping 1-800... and, therefore, I too was not aware that Ashwini has already started dissecting the dura and cramming the Kreb's cycle. To complicate the matters, as I was getting homesick, my computer at Sevagram too fell sick. My family did not know how to contact me! A mail from Dr Ramji Singh, Professor of Physiology, brought the much awaited news about Ashwini's admission. Guest guest
Thanks everybody for the compliments. Yash has scored well in his first MBBS. However, despite the 74%, he is not the topper as his class is full of toppers from all over Maharashtra. He is among the top 10 or 15, but the final list is still to be put up. I was waiting for the ranking before informing the group, when SP Sir let the cat out of the bag. There is a distinct contrast in the psyche of BJ Medical College and MGIMS. In MGIMS, we used to know the details of each and every person of our class including the marks. Here in BJ the students just do not care. They only know about their group. Maybe it is the large number of students that makes the difference, or maybe it is the Aloo Bondas that we ate. Even the teachers here are not very bothered about the performance of the class. They may be interested in a few toppers, however, the rest are just grist for the exam mill! We were indeed fortunate that we could enjoy the Sevagram ki hawa! We had friends who mattered. We had teachers who cared. We had an institute which is a family. Kishore Shah 1974

Guest guest
That's right sir. Often we say that MGIMS was more like a school, where veryone knew everyone. Was Ugale madam (Dean's office) there during your times?? Well she remembers the name and the batch of each and very student out there, UG or PG. She is the one who cuts the fee receipts for us. And whenever we go there she just looks up at you from her seat, never asks you your name and fills in all the required details. In fact I took advantage of this fact and put Dean ma'm as one of the referees in my CV. After all who outside the institute will guess that the Dean knows not only me but everyone personally. But on face value it looks, " if the Dean is recommending her ... she must be good...and must have been well known " (which in any case i was during my time !! ;-) Anchita (93) Â On Sat, 21 Aug 2004 Kishore Shah wrote : >Thanks everybody for the compliments. > >Yash has scored well in his first MBBS.
