It's very possible..what's the new furniture made of? If it's vinyl or some

sort of fake leather they give off fumes similar to new carpet.

Will her husband allow the furniture to be professionally cleaned? I am thinking it might be in the "stuff" they put on the furniture to be spill proof? If it is cloth and they can clean it, maybe they can get the posionous stuff out? Just a wild guess.

I have a good friend that years ago blew out her immunity system whenher church got new carpet. she cleaned the church and got severe asthmaattacks, plus red eyes, tearing and sniffling. Reacts the same to cats. That was over 10 years ago and she got better. However, her husband bought new furniture, the stuff, as she said thatis so spillproof that you could spill a jar of marmalade on it and itstill wipes off...Ever since, she has been deadly sick, just like the carpet episode. Herhusband thinks it's all in her head, maybe it's the dog ( they had thedog for years, no problem). anyone heard of this new furniture and hadthe same reactions or has heard something about it ?My friend gets better when she is out of the house for long stretches, but with the cold weather coming on, it really is getting bad for her.We are looking to research this.I told her to call the Jewish National Hospital hotline, for they arevery good about asthma and answering questions.

C-M,

That would be my choice. I would rather have someone else break in the furniture so it would be more comfy than that new stuff. :) Oh yeah, forgot they would use an industrial cleaner...dah!

-- Re: Industrial allergies

,Often it is an 'industrial cleaner' that can set people off,too...She needs to get rid of the furniture, simple as that !!And get well worn leather stuff...c-M
