We just left the pediatrician with . He has the start of a sore on his belly. Pediatrician thought it was caused from friction because he is belly breathing die to a cold. He said to use triple paste? Is that ok under the cast? CatieSent from my iPhone

Hi Beth,I would call the doctor. He might have a sore. Keira has worn casts for 3.5 months and now is going 4 months.. Towards the end it can get tight and they can develop skin issues. We typically see this in the area of the rib flaps and the belly area where it is so tight. Can you look up the cast and see anything? If you prop the lower portion of the cast on a rolled up towel, it sorta pushes the cast away and you can look up. Does he wear a t-shirt? If you can pull that down you can see if there is any staining on it. That is how we discovered Keira's sore, it bled onto the shirt.Casts do have the tendency to 'ride-up", but that doesn't typically cause sores. It could be that the relative picking him up by the cast caused it to rub the sore. I hope it isn't a cast sore, but if it is better to catch it sooner

then later.Liz,

I am wandering if any of you that have had your kids in casts for three months at a time have had any problems with them acting like they are in pain? Every time I lay down to change his diaper now he cries like he is in terrible pain. It started out as a temper tantrum, then I got him to calm down, now he just lays there and cries quietly while the tears just stream out. I have a relative that is young and crazy and he picked up by his cast several times last night even after we told him not to and I am wandering if that moved the cast at all and now it is pinching him. Any suggestions?

Also he is not scheduled to go back to get his cast off until December 28th.
