Guest guest
I don't post unless I have a problem with my daughter so I thought I'd share something nice for a change. She is HFA (8 yrs. old) and in inclusion reading/language arts. Had a book report to do on her favorite book. Searched until she found her well worn copy of Helen Keller, Courage In The Dark and proceeded to laboriously (major handwriting problems)write a very good detailed report. She had to give her " opinion " on why she felt this was a good book. Well she's very literal (as most autistics are) so opinion doesn't factor into the equasion as far as she's concerned. She thought about this long and hard and decided that this was her favorite book because " Helen Keller didn't let all the mean people in this world tell her she couldn't do things. She didn't care if she looked different because she knew she was smart. " Well, I just about cried. This is more of her opinion about anything than she's ever expressed before! I wasn't even aware that she realized people were mean to those who were different. I was so proud. It makes me wonder what else is in their beautiful minds that may not be spoken aloud.
