hi

my son drinks a lot as well. even from sinks in disabled loos. The osteopath

always tells me it is because of dryness in the cortex in his brain...also he

doesnt drink much fluids as school and seem s to make up for this outside of

school. why do you think its gut related? My sons gut issues are well on the way

to impovement.... but we still get the odd day of compaction. any more thoughts

coming from you would be appreciated

something to drink almost constantly, he has done this for ever and no

interventions have changed the habit. It may be gut linked, or indeed, because

it has been so long (he is now almost 6) that it may just be habit now. If

anyone could shed some light it would be appreciated.

hi , that sounds like polidypsia and can be quite dangerous as can lead to electrolyte imbalance http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polydipsia

most likely caused by autonomic/sympathetic dysfunction, and prevalent in psych patients etc (I've heard of few ASD cases on boards over the years, mostly teenagers). clonidine might be helpful or ACE inhibitors or something else that works in similar ways. this article may shed some light hopefully http://www.nature.com/npp/journal/v18/n4/full/1395140a.html

Hi. Can't excessive drinking sometimes be oxilates?

Could you ask a reflexologist to check your child's kidneys?

Best wishes,

.

Hi everyoneMy 18 year old autistic daughter also has problems with excessive drinking of fluids whenever she is unwell (which is quite often). This is always associated with a severe obsessive compulsive behaviours. She has had some testing done which has shown her to have hormonal disregulation, low iodine low T3' low vit D, high uric acid , high levels of Inflammatory markers. As it always happens when she is Ill, it seems to be associated with inflammation. All thoughts welcomeKathSent from my iPad

most likely sympathetic imbalance (caused by inflammation/sickness), if

prolonged can be a serious health risk, esp if body is not excreting

fluids at the same rate. if it happens for longer periods of time look

into clonidine or better still class of med called angiotensin receptor

blockers - originally developed to control hypertension but help in all

sorts of sympathetic dysfunctions including some cases of excessive

fluid intake polydipsia

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15340131

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11270459

have you checked her blood pressure during episodes?
